    991 GT3/GTS Locking Wheel Nuts.

    Hi Guys,

    Quick question.

Have any of you experienced these locking nuts loosing colour. The black finish on them,  due to the nuts having a anodised finish, can discolour and end up looking a milky. They seem to be quite sensitive to what you may use to clean them with, e.g. - steer clear of cleaners with alkaline.

    Tia.

throt : I don't belong to the Porsche elite with top of the range cars with centre wheel Iocks Smiley Smiley but FWIW I'd keep clear of all these wheel cleaners. Several detailer have advised me over the years to just put car shampoo in water for cleaning wheels, and occasionally polish the wheels with car wax (more frequently than you would with the car's paintwork). Most of these cleaners are acidic which is great for removing brake dust but also does a good job of ruining the wheel coatings over time. No one is more anal than me about the condition of wheels and the shampoo and wax solution works fine.

I've not had the problem myself, but I've seen some pictures of some with pretty nasty discolouration..  I think the super-aggressive wheel cleaners need to be steered clear of..  Opinion seemed to be that that was what was causing it..

Haven't noticed any discoloration myself either, but I never use wheel cleaners, just the same soap I use for cleaning the rest of the car. I concur with the above comments, those cleaners are very agrresive and tend to eat up the polish and other finishes the wheels have.

The whole purpose of back rims, is that you never, ever , have to clean them  smiley

Not going to lie, I'm not one of those that spend a lot of time cleaning the car constantly,I rather drive it and don't care about exterior looks as long as the inside is clean, and even makes it look less flashy, so I clean the car once every two months or so and that equates to 3-4,000km so its an added bonus having black wheels indecision

    +1,,

Have mine cleaned every 5 week and not by myself. Actually like a bit of dirt on her, she looks mean and ready to go..

The only dirt I remove straight away is that damn bird poop. I remember it leaving a stain on my brand new black Escort RS many year back.Smiley.

Re: 991 GT3/GTS Locking Wheel Nuts.

I am also not big on cleaning my car , that's why black rims fit me well . I have no time schedule . I wash it when it really looks dirty , so sometimes can be once every two or three weeks ( in the bad times of winter ) or every 2 or 3 month when the weather is good . Never used a brush on the rims of  my 9 year 997 . I just wash them with the ' power spray ' and they get cleaned once a year properly at the garage, when I have them changed for the winter rims .

But now that I bought Blueline's ex black OZ rims, I will not have to clean them ever, ever again !  ( and my car got faster too ) smiley

Mine's washed around once a month - but it's a weekend and sunny day car so it never gets that dirty. I spend as much time cleaning my black wheels (even without much brake dust) as I do the rest of the car. Smiley

    Hi Buddy,

I struggle with gardening, all I do is get my impulse sprinkler out and on. Have my old boy do it for me. His in his eighties and so fit mainly due to doing it for a living all his life, so that tells you everything with reference to health.

Fair play to you. Make sure you dead head those plants though Smiley..

Or if you're cheap like me, lighter fluid.  Always clean and polish after though.
