I like the idea of a lightweight SUV/Sportscar crossover vehicle, something like the size and weight of a Jeep Liberty or Toyota RAV-4. Before the Cayenne came out, there were speculations this would be the direction Porsche would go. Their marketing research led them in the direction of a more full sized SUV though.
We seem to be in a transition period right now in the US. It's not clear to me that the full size SUV has more upside to it's market. There seems to be a lot of interest in the new small SUV's, like the RAV-4. The big trucks may have hit a plateau. There is also much interest in the coming hybrid designs, like the RX-400.
Design wise, I don't see as much of the traditional Porsche influences as I would like in the Farina drawings, sorry. The front has the new 997 headlights but the sides and rear do not look familiar. I actually liked the initial Cayenne drawings very much. They contained many Porsche styling cues and it appeared to be a much smaller and sleeker vehicle than the final product ended up being. I would like to see Porsche produce something more like the drawing below.
