Not in the mood to watch a movie about a pandemic.

It's a show, two seasons. And actually it's not at all about a pandemic, it's just one of the plot devices. It's more a spy thriller. But the acting is superb and it's beautifully shot. I'll put it this way, JK Simmons plays two versions of himself at the same time, how could you not love that?

I doubt my wife would enjoy it (she hates everything even remotely SciFi) but maybe I give it a try, thanks. Smiley

Speaking of SciFi: I watched the latest Wonder Woman WW84 movie with my kids (huge Marvel and DC fans) on HBO Max and we all were deeply disappointed. The first movie was really great, finally a DC movie we would enjoy (most of them were too dark) but the second one (WW84) was...boring. It started interesting but then... People seem to love it but we can't understand why. Smiley Maybe the Corona pandemic did more (brain) damage than we thought. Smiley Smiley

Oh, I didn't like Tenet either. To my surprise, I understood the movie (it wasn't easy though...until I "felt" the plot) but I think it was a little bit too wooden for such a movie, I cannot say I loved it. Kenneth Branagh was great though.

STI and Evo are no more. I obviously meant a new car. A Euro 6d or similar emissions standard car. A 2021 standards car. And a car produced like the GR Yaris, 25k or more with it’s own factory line. Not a bespoke model or a tuned one.

Right now, the GR Yaris it’s one of a kind. Perhaps some will follow Toyota but for now the other hot hatches like a Golf or a Focus don’t have the capabilities of the GR Yaris.

I am not 100% sure but as far as I know Toyota don't use DCTs in any of their cars. They use CVT in their small cars and torque converter autos higher up the range. None would have been suitable for the GR.

They must know something about the fragility of DCTs

Just to tie this together a bit, I went to watch WW1984 in GT4 at a drive in. Not sure why when I could have chosen another car with much better sound system like B&O, Burmester, or even the Harmon Kardon in the M2C would have been way better. But if I had a GR Yaris that would have been the logical car to take to the drive in as I could have taken more people and still paid the same price (charged per car). 😜

Btw I also couldn’t get past episode 4 of first season in GoT. Found it really boring. I’m currently watching The Crown. It’s been more entertaining than I thought it would be. 😂

The GR is a homologation special. Maybe there are some FIA rules that made Toyota pick a manual gearbox for this car...

Evo is certainly gone, but STi Subarus have been continuously sold in NA, Australia, Japan obviously... so just EU has lost them, where Japanese cars have always struggled.

Fragility of DCTs?

From personal experience, I've had 3 failures on VAG DCTs. On two Audi Q5 (wet clutch) and on a Polo 1.2 (dry clutch). The mechatronic systems are prone to early wear and the clutches last liitle more.

The PDK on the 911 is still working fine. But as far as I remember on rennteam, Gnil has reported a failure.

I believe that torque converter autos are more reliable. BMW have advanced their autos in terms of shifting speed and smooth operation. I drive daily a 2-series coupe and the 8 speed auto is excellent much better than Audi's DCT, even ignoring the reliability issues. I understand that the new M3/M4 abandoned DCT altogether for Auto.

I read somewhere that there was not enough room for a DCT in the Yaris GR.

True packaging is a problem but as Toyota don't use DCT on any of their cars they wouldn't develop one for a few GRs

Plenty of STi in Switzerland, a land in the middle of the EU that has always had many Japanese cars. With no local car industries we are not biased and just buy what is best.

Ignoring the stupidity of performance driving down a wet tree lined narrow road, all that I gathered from the video is the driver is skilled. The car was anything but planted. It felt like he was driving on ice and he was doing everything he could to control the car. Not my cup of tea. enlightened

I thought that video looked fun. I had my Evo 9 in the mountains today in light snow and enjoyed it. It’s nice to be able to enjoy driving throughout the year if you live in a place with real winter.

Yes but there were plans (according to the local dealer, can't be sure he is right) to install a DCT or some sorts of automatic in this car but there wasn't enough space left (drivetrain, AWD) and they didn't want to develop something special for this car due to cost. Makes sense though. I cannot get another car only I will drive, my wife would kill me. Smiley
