Neither is disapointing or impressive in my view since the way they achieve the same lap time is so different that one's lap time does not reflect upon the other's:
What the 997S looses in almost 300HP difference, it makes it up in braking and handling...
OR
What the SL65AMG looses in 2 ton curb weight and GT-suspensions it makes up with brute horsepower and torque...

If the lap times relate to the "Kleiner Kurs" (i.e. not the full Grand Prix distance) I am indeed impressed. I would have expected the 997s to be quicker as Hockenheim is not designed for huge "trucks" like the SL

So there seems to be a difference in opinion. No doubt lets state the obvious, the Porsche is a much much superior handling car. Its just that when I read the lap times and the fact that at Hocken its mostly dependent on chassis setups rather than brute power, hance why AMG cars always get a bad time here, I thought crikey the SL65 at 2.1 tons is impressive!
It is the kleiner kurs. Could the fact that the SL65 has better weight distribution than other AMG Mercs and with LSD as standard be the determining factor here as to its superior time to other cars?

Kleiner-Kurs is not a HP "as" dependant as other tracks, but it has straights and HP "still" matters, and 355HP to 620HP is a stratospheric difference that needs to be taken into account anywere execpt a g-kart track. However wasn't Sport Auto going to publish a ring and hockenhein test by Von Saurma about this time. If so I bet the fastest hockenheim 997S lap time will drop futher, I guessing to a low 1:14. How much did the SL65AMG do?
