Re: 997S Break-In Period: not clear

anybody has a logical explanation of why the engine will have better performance if you dont respect the break inn period ,and go full blast from the begining?

countless times if i might add. this is beyond beating the dead horse. its resusitating it, and killing it again and again and again and again.

with all due respect, there are new guys here who have these issues on their minds for the first time.

Also, it's an interactive thing here, next best thing to talking over a cup of coffee or office partition.

If people want to talk amongst themselves on "old" issues which are foremost on their minds, just try to be helpful if you can, or move on your own path.

Re: 997S Break-In Period: not clear

I sent an e-mail to MotoMan asking wether his break-in theories would apply to new Porsches. Below you will find his answer:

    Hello Paulo !!

Thanks for writing, it's great to hear from you. I have always wanted to
    visit Brazil !!

Yes, many thousands of people have used the Mototune hard break-in on cars
including several Porsches. The real "Break-In Secret" is the fact that the
manufacturers of run all modern motor vehicles to redline using full
throttle at the end of the assembly line. It's to start the ring sealing
process, but the consumer is left to finish the process. It usually takes
100 km of hard accelleration and decelleration (within the limits of safe
driving) before the ring seal process is complete.

Vehicles that are broken in hard enjoy many benefits from the superior ring
seal such as greatly improved gas mileage, power, and throttle response.

In addition to the extra power the ring seal provides, there is a drastic
reduction in the amount of combustion by-products that reach the oil. An
engine with a poor ring seal will allow acids as well as fuel to contaminate
the engine oil. This is what really wears the engine out fast.

The hard break-in results in cleaner oil, so as well as the power increase,
the engine will also last much longer before requiring a rebuild !!

There are 23 more Power News articles (including 4 more Break-In Secrets
    articles) here:

    http://www.mototuneusa.com/thanx.htm

Please let me know how it works out for you if you decide to use it on your
    new car.

    Best Regards,

Re: 997S Break-In Period: not clear

This still does not explain why the ring sealing on angines run in hard should be superior to that on engines run in more gently, even though the latter might take a little longer.

If oil contamination were really to be a problem, would car manufacturers take the risk of extending oil change intervals to the extent they have down the years?

    Not convinced.

Re: 997S Break-In Period: not clear

Having read all the break-in articles from Mototuneusa, I'm pretty convinced.

Factory delivery, option #900 as listed on the Porsche configurator site, states the cost at $0. Can you confirm that?

Re: Break-in challenging with Euro delivery

That is not correct. They are charging me about GBP800 on a Turbo S. That included flights, hotels, train fare back and insurance for two people.

Also remember you have to pay a $10,000 deposit on the VAT besides any local taxes you may have to pay.

I don't think you pay a DEPOSIT on the VAT; you pay whatever the actual VAT is (16% of the base car price?). Assuming you stay in Europe less than one year, however, the VAT is refunded PLUS 4% interest when the car enters the US and clears customs, according to the PCA Order Guide.

    Re: Break-in

    Hey,

I always wondered if an engine and it's seals can really break-in with synthetic motor oil (especially 0-50 weight).
And as far as not having 355 hp, when (or if) I finally get my vehicle, with 4159 miles back from the workshop, I am going to dyno the car at my friends shop. It beter be more than 355 hp. Didn't Porsche ever hear of a little car called the Miata or the Mustang SVC Cobra.
