    No Sports Exhaust for 2005 build

    My car is a Feb build for March 05 delivery, I decided to wait until March because of the s/exhaust as advised by my dealer.
    I have been informed today that NO sports exhausts will be available, until at the least Aug 05 because of euro 4 emissions. Apparently the 997 is the first sports car to have level 4 emissions and Porches cannot get the s/exhaust passed to level 4 without further development.
    My order will now be completed without the exhaust, what I really don't understand is why Porsche have released pictures and specifications without the correct approval?

    Dealer has now advised me to fit the exhaust at a latter date at an extra Pounds250 charge.

    One last point, there is no guarantee that the s/exhaust will be available for 2006 build cars so forget changing the delivery date, its just not worth the wait.

    Sorry for the bad news, I'm certainly very disappointed.

    Are you sure! I just asked my dealer to delay my car - they said they have no ETA on the sports exahust yet but they know it will be delayed. They surely did not mention waiting for 2006 model! RC, any info from your sources pls?

    I'm sorry to say that my dealer seemed very convincing today and explained that he had a large list of people who were being contacted with the same bad news.

    Although its a European emissions problem so it might only effect Europe?

    I will demand a better answer, though I'm sure RC has the best answer... we'll wait for RC first.

    The problem is, porsche have clearly got a problem with the exhaust, every one is confused and unsure as to when the option will be available... so who do you believe. (no disrespect to RC the mans a porsche guru) I have just wasted months when I could have had my car earlier... I expected a lot more from such an important sports car manufacturer.
    The s/exhaust should have not been offered as an option at this time.

    A last point my dealer took a 10% deposit when I placed my order, so not being petty, I have paid 10% for something that is not available. What if an option cost several 1,000's pounds?
    What about the loss of interest? or is the plan...lots of options offered and porsche cant lose, collect deposit money and we all put up when the options are not available. lets face it, we all love the car and look forward to delivery. Would you cancel your order over an exhaust? I certainly will not.

    My dealer told me the same thing. I have a Dec build 997S on order, no PSE until Sep 05 at the earliest he said. I am going ahead with the Dec build without PSE. V bad news, but will retrofit when it becomes available.

    If that is true, I may as well just let the order go through and hope to god that my other option (terracota) is not delayed as well or otherwise I will be forced to just take one from the dealer inventory!!!!!!!!! cause it would not be worth waiting for the order since i'll be getting something I did not want from the begining as far as colors/options!

    I know i'm going on and on about this but if i had known that the exhaust was not going to be available, I would have been driving around in a new car by now, probably happy and content and not missing the extra sports sound. Its all the bloody waiting and anticipation that really lets the whole thing down, they should have not offered the option in the first place and we would have been none the wiser and would have excepted an after market solution with open arms once available.

    muhri , I might be wrong but I think they way it works is... if they cannot complete your order, the dealer gets a rejection when placing your spec... so you will know straight away about terracota availability and at the least your find out where you stand and wont have to wait ages in limbo

    muhri, don't worry about terracota not being available. i just saw a black 997 with terracota today. it looked incredible. getting me to think about changing my order, except my exterior is lapis blue and i'm not sure terracota will look good with that. but with black, it really looked awesome. also, the dealer had 4 997s on the lot that were available. i was suprised to see so many.

    trice, thanks - at least I can get this option which is not retrofittable if it turns out that we have to wait till 06 for the sports exahust.

    My car is Basalt black, I think terracota will go with lapis blue as well.. I was debating between basalt black, flat black, lapis blue or atlas grey my self then I went with basalt black (atlas grey looked too much like black anyway),, I could not resist terracota when I saw it on pictures
