Had the car 7 days now...

I have had my new 997 for seven days now (only able to drive it 3 days because of the rain) and its time for its first bath. What is the best way to clean the interior windows and what is the best tire dressing?

Re: Had the car 7 days now...

Interior windows: porsche interior glass cleaner. Not sure about the 997 but 996 might a film on inside of class that you have to be careful with; hence the "special" cleaner.

Use microfiber cloth: nothing else will do if you hate hazy glare when the sun is low and in front of you.

Tire dressing: I hear you should avoid silicone-based products on tires and rest of car

Carcareonline.com has good library of advice.

C'mon for gods' sake this is not a corvette or a viper . Porsches are meant to be driven in the rain too.

If I recall you have seal grey exterior. No need to wash it. It looks better dirty.

However I will acknowledge what is under the skin is an excellent performer.Too bad it's style reminds me of the movie Groundhog Day.

Re: Had the car 7 days now...

Nice. The guy just bought his car and you're making him feel really good about it. You must have had parents who believed in positive reinforcement while you were growing up.

If you have been following this site you would know this is a running joke between him and me. Also, I am confident of my decisions and do not reinforcement.

BTW for cleaning interior windows the best cleaner is the Porsche interior glass cleaner. It comes in a small black bottle and is around $5. I use it for my Ferrari.

For tire dressing the 3M product is the best I have used. Not to reflective and if applied right does not splash on to the car.

Let me deliver the "official story": no "tire dressing" stuff recommended by Porsche due to possible tire damage and/or accelerated aging/degradation. No kidding.

Be a clever Porsche owner (like I am... ) and let others do the job. Look at the picture, you can learn from it.

Re: Had the car 7 days now...

RC!!! hahahahaha... Where is the picture I asked you for in the ferrari forum?? Beauty and the Beast?

Re: Had the car 7 days now...

If you drive the car for real - your tires will wear out and be replaced LONG before ANYTHING you put on them will do any damage !!!

Re: Had the car 7 days now...

child labour? RC, you evil man!

Re: Had the car 7 days now...

RC, is your car Basalt Black or Midnight Blue?

Re: Had the car 7 days now...

i think its flat black., thats one of the 'launch cars' , right?

Re: Had the car 7 days now...

Ha, i see you in your bumper

Re: Had the car 7 days now...

Groit's Garage has excellent window cleaner wipes--they get the glass squeaky clean, and you don't get any overspray on the leather dash, doors, etc.

Their lint free towels are also great:

And this items helps you not feel like a contortionist cleaning the inside of the rear window:

For tires, I don't like a shiny finish, and have been using 303 Protectant for years. Non-silicone, matte finish, and lasts several washings:

Re: Had the car 7 days now...

Max, why heed Porsche recommendations on glass cleaners but disregard them on engine break in? I don't get it?

Re: Had the car 7 days now...

It's a 4 ounce spray bottle of stuff. Put it on a microfiber cloth and it cleans nicely.

Check into this, I'm not sure about it: the inside of some windshields are vulnerable to marring. I'm guessing this is why Porsche sells their "own" stuff.

    autopia.com (?)
    carcareonline.com
    Suncoastmotorsports.com

    your local dealer fer sher.

Sorry, I'm not at my computer so not sure of the exact links.
