Re: Opinion on US elections...Read it or IGNORE it...

BUSH got it and while not my dream candidate, he is much better than the lame bum offered by the self destructive democrat party that just fell off the left wing.

    Tom

Re: Opinion on US elections...Read it or IGNORE it...

<sigh> As a physician and a high tax bracket individual, the B/C win is good for me personally...although I still think it nuts to cut taxes at a time of, as B/C put it, "war." As a point of history, I don't think (but could be wrong) that Lincoln, Wilson, Roosevelt, Truman, LBJ, and BushI cut taxes during wartime. In fact, if I'm not going to pick up a gun and go defend our country, isn't it my civic responsibility to pay taxes to allow for the defense of my country?

All in all however, I really think a K/E victory would have better for the US and the world. For physicians, a K/E victory would be potentially disastrous (E being a <shudder> malpractice trial lawyer), but I would have taken that risk to toss B/C out. I hate B/C for losing focus on OBL and getting us into this ridiculous situation in Iraq...

This being said, I hope that Bush again realizes that he does NOT have a mandate. That 49% of the country do not want him as president. Perhaps he will be more of a coalition builder to try to secure his legacy as a two term president...one can only hope...but I bet his pigheadedness will continue...And with a Republican Senate and HOR...

I guess there's always 2008! Is it too early to start? How about Feingold/Obama ticket (i'd love, but doomed to disaster nationally with 2 midwestern liberals) or my dream ticket McCain/Feingold or McCain/Obama!

Congratulations to all the Republicans out there...hopefully B/C will remember the "compassionate" part of "compassionate conservatism."

Re: Opinion on US elections...Read it or IGNORE it...

Bush will probably be the next president and I would call that a [censored] catastrophy for the world.

    It's a very sad day.
How can people be so dumb and re elect a stupid ass like george. It's beyond comprehension. He can do as many mistakes as he wants, nobody is going to blame him.

It comes down to one thing in this election: safety. But how can you feel safer when you have more enemies around the world than ever?

I'm afraid for the future. I would not be surprised to see more on terrorist acts on US soil. Deficit is going to continue to grow, more US troops are gonna get killed, the economy is going to be a pain in the wallet for a long time, oil's price is going to stay high...

The nightmare is going to last 4 more years. -

RC's little comment: The American People voted and we should respect this vote. I remember when Ronald Reagan was president, so many people in Europe and in the US made fun of him as well, some of them even called him an analphabet, a bad actor who became president. I remember how many passionate discussions we had in school because of Reagan, he surely wasn't everybody's "darling" over here in Europe. History repeats itself with Bush. I liked Bill Clinton, he had some sort of charm. My wife liked him a lot too, I guess he always was a ladies man. Bush is different, he is a serious family man, he has been raised that way and the alcohol problems he had might be compared to the weed "problems" Clinton had. But it seems to be "cool" to smoke pot but not so cool to drink alcohol. The funny part: I bet that a lot of people who criticize Bush are alcoholics but they don't even realize it. Anyway: calling somebody stupid who joined two elite universities, who has a pilot license for jet aircraft and who has a MBA sounds weird. Do you have a MBA? It sounds even more weird from people who just have middle school or college. You can say that you don't like Bush, that he is too "sterile", too shy, too boring, too annoying, too ugly, too whateveryouwant but don't call him stupid because he isn't.
So he sometimes doesn't get some words right? So what? I held a few speeches in my life and I wasn't proud of them. Somebody once asked me if I really went to university but what the heck, I'm no speaker, I have other talents.
So please guys: try to be fair and just. Don't make fun of people because the media does it. Don't believe everything you read or hear from other people. Germany's most leftist political magazine DER SPIEGEL analized Fahrenheit 911 using facts and they came to the conclusion that it is just a big piece of propaganda movie against Bush where truth, fiction and some untold facts were mixed together to create a certain image.

I urge you: don't take politics too personal and try to avoid "hitting" politicians (verbally) below the belt.
You don't like Bush? Fine. You don't like Kerry? OK. But try to accept a democratic decision because this is part of a democratic process. You fortunate enough to live in a country where people can choose their destiny, in other parts of this world, this isn't possible.
Life goes on, relax and enjoy it.

Re: Opinion on US elections...Read it or IGNORE it...

    Please a few facts;

Bill Clinton % of total votes 43
Bush % of total votes 51
Bush wins with 3.5 million margin and most votes ever received by a president

How EXACTLTY have B/C lost focus on OBL? Did bush call the cia one morning and say "give osama a pass i'm feeling generous today"? OBL is most likely in some hut in pakistan, should we invade there also?

US troops are unfortunately dying because of poor generalship in Iraq. Terrorism was out of control and 9/11 just got us involved. Radical islam must be defeated. The radicals were sick of not getting anywhere with israel so they struck at us, big mistake for them. Until the israeli/palestinian mess is fairly settled such terror will continue.

And the last fact for today is a president can not produce 1 private sector job, nor lose 1. It was bill clinton who pushed nafta and free trade with china which has cost so many manufacturing jobs, and as RC has posted even germany is hearing that giant sucking sound of jobs going to the 3rd world.

I understand your frustration - just remember that most American people did not vote for Bush the first time and only 51% did this time

He and Cheney run this place like a corporation.

Why didn't they get _fired_ for making huge mistakes based on wreckless risk taking and gross mismanagement and neglect? In many respects, we're clearly in deep **** now.

_If_ they pulled it off, _as advertised_ in Iraq, well, then, maybe they could keep their jobs.

    What a joke.

It's sad that there are this many unaware people out there but the saddest part is that many people that have a understanding of what's going on will burn for their stupidity .

Grant, I know, i was one of perot's first members and activists in my state. I am an independent. But still 57% preferred someone other than the slickone. Even when they heard jennifer flowers tape they still believed clintons words over their own ears.

And for another fact, those who really know what is going on in the US will let those who only pay attention at election time that one of Bush's goals on taking office 4 years ago was the removal of saddam and the intro of democracy into the muslim world. (wolfowitz etc.) WMD's were just a smoke screen, however they did actually believe he had them and the top us generals actually thought they would be used.

    Kerry Concedes - Bush Wins

John Kerry telephoned the President to concede the election and will be making a speech to that effect at 1pm.

Here is a link to MSNBC's version of that story:

Hmm...B/C received the most votes for Prez probably becuase it was the highest voter turnout since 1960. As a % of voting americans, I'm not sure if 51% is very high compared to say Reagan/Mondale. In fact, I'm pretty sure if Kerry's vote total is looked at, it will probably be higher than many if not all previous winning presidents...except Bush in 2004.

Believe me...B/C is good for me personally and I struggle with this everyday. My physician collegues are estatic with at least a glimmer of hope for malpractice tort reform and probably less slashing of physician fees from CMS (medicare). But, I just can't believe that the US and the world is better off with B/C and the maniacal and simpleminded neoconservatives that predominate the administration and the loss of reasoned voices such as Colin Powell.

Other than parroting this kerry talking point, i will ask again for your specific facts showing that GW has taken an action to "lose" focus on OBL. There are more than enough spec ops teams to go anywhere in the world. They operate in 6 man teams most of the time.

As to Colin Powell, a nice man, but definately a company man if you know his history going back to vietnam. Also a major creation of the bush family when he was plucked from relative obscurity by Bush 1 under reagan and made NSA with a 2 star promo vaulting him ahead of his peers.

Since you are taking such a stand against GW would you like to share with us the charity that will receive your tax windfall courtesy of GW.

I'm not a republican, i just like facts.

Re: Opinion on US elections...Read it or IGNORE it...

One other thing on Iraq guys. It had to come to a head. The iraqi people were being starved and denied medicine. The oilf for food program was doing nothing but enriching some crooked "allies" in the war on terror and nobody wanted to let saddam out from under the sanctions. So just comtinue the stalemate until saddam dies an old bitter dictator while untold suffering continues under his repression?

Re: Opinion on US elections...Read it or IGNORE it...

I apologize to those who might want to offer responses but this off-topic thread is getting too heated and opinionated and I need to end it. The election is over, George Bush has won and we all wish him well.
