    Finally, got a test drive

Well, Porsche Middle East delivered 5 997 S's to the dealership. They were all the same specs & exterior color / interior color:

    Midnight Blue (Very nice)
Sand Beige Full Leather with supple leather.
    Sports Chrono Plus
    PCCB
    PASM
Tiptronic (Never though Tip would be so much fun)
    DVD-Nav.
    Multi-Function Steering wheel
    Telephone with additional handset.

You can tell, these cars were setup for the comfort oriented people which seem to be the majority of ME customers.

I took one of the cars for a long test drive along highways, twisted roads and inside the city. I had the sports chrono on all the time when I was out of the city. One word to describe the car is "PERFECT" .. though all the cars had been beaten to death by other testers (the tires were almost like slicks) meaning they under went some heavy duty drifts and stuff (The same cars were tested in UAE, Riyadh and Jeddah before they arrived to Khobar where I tested them).. It is a monster waiting to be unleashed, with the SCP on the car breathe amazing and ready for a sprint any minute you like. Even without the SCP on, it was great but a bit tamed. I was very disappointed that non of the test cars had a -20 suspension but I remember RC saying the sports mode of PASM is quite similar to the -20 MM and the -20 MM might be a bit harsher ... It is not harsh at all in Sports mode of PASM so I am glad I went for the -20 MM suspension. Another disappointment was that non of the cars had a manual transmission, I guess they wanted to satisfy the majority of the testers who appearntly ordered the tip transmission. I am the only one who ordered a manual with -20MM suspension out of 8 people who came to test the cars ...

Regardless, I am pleased to say the tiptronic was great and so much fun, the maximum speed I went during the test was 250KM/H due to the fact that the roads were not that empty. The car was very stable like a rock! eventhough the tires were not in perfect condition. The car sounded great as well, from the exterior and when passing by and inside, though tamed inside more than on the outside. PCCB Brakes, I can not add to RC's comments - They were superb! Unfortunately, I can not afford them

Now, if that car was perfect, imagine my specs with -20MM suspension, sports exahust and manual transmission

I also testdrove a Cayanne S and was amazed by how that big car can perform !! I might consider a Cayanne turbo when its time to replace my E Class

I told the dealer that I still want to test drive a manual tranmission car with -20 mm suspension and they said they might have one soon or when I go on a business trip to Riyadh or Jeddah, they'll be happy to provide one if they have it there.

Now, I really can not wait!!!!!!!!

    Interior shot

Re: Finally, got a test drive

    sand beige, how appropriate

Re: Finally, got a test drive

Moogle, ha ha - you are so funny not.

Now seriously, I am not sure if its sand beige or Natural brown but I thought it would be sand beige because I think along with teracotta and cocoa, natural brown is not available till oct. RC, might know for sure.

Interesting my test drive was a tip too.

dealer didn;t have any manuals to test drive.
Is this some sort of conspiracy?

    Thanks for your review Muhri.

Re: Finally, got a test drive

if these were the 'launch' cars offered there, i thought it was interesting that they chose to designate such a colour, named rather interestingly, to the launch models of that region

perhaps its more marketing mindf*cking to make people feel the interior is serene and calm in the desert.

too bad i had to type all that out to make myself clear.

These were cars sent by Porsche ME, the dealer themselves have a couple of test cars but they let the managers drive them and allow customers to try them out as well but those are not where I live, so I had to live with what Porsche ME provided and yep, they were all Tip! However, like I said in the begining, it seems that the majority of people here go with the comfort oriented setup rather than the sporty setup !!!!

Re: Interesting my test drive was a tip too.

Interior is sand beige, (Same as mine), just a point on the PCCB, these cars have been hammered, and used up at least one set of tyres but the inside of the rims is spotless!, no marking from the brakes at all!

Re: Interesting my test drive was a tip too.

John, tells you how strong pccb is !! The brakes were amazing.

Don't worry about it. BTW, I've lived for 6 years in the states (Did my bachelor and Master's overthere) and I know how marketing people think so I get what you are trying to imply I guess.

Re: Finally, got a test drive

Very nice review, muhri. Good job, you surely had a lot of fun.
Regarding PASM and the 20 mm suspension: a lot of people forget that the 20 mm option also includes a limited slip differential. Now trust me if I tell you that you ordered yourself a real racer, you'll be surprised how much traction the car has with Sport Chrono activated when the PSM mapping is changed to an even less intrusive setup.
Surprisingly, comfort is much better with the 20 mm option compared to the PASM sport setting. It surely has to do with the damper/spring setup compromise due to the programming of PASM. But you don't really need comfort with the PASM sport setting because you can always turn the "sport" option off, resulting in a pretty comfortable ride.

The PCCB is working very nice, indeed. But the "Turbo" brake which is standard on the 997 Carrera S isn't bad either, so don't worry.

Just can't wait to read your review about the 20 mm option testdrive or when your car arrives. Have fun.

Re: Finally, got a test drive

Thanks RC, I am glad that it was not very harsh and knowing that the 20 MM with LSD is even not harsher cause I was scared I would hate it but man did I love it and I am ready to love it some more when it gets here - vrooooom
