My guess is that it won't be an option at all.  I think it is for the 50th Anniversary Carrera RS (Limited model like 911R)

Looking at that car it would more be like a 50th  a la Sports classic then at the R . Or maybe it is just a regular option

Carrera RS is the most iconic sports-racer they ever built.  It will be at the top of the pecking order (or near), not a Sport Classic.

At this time, they may just want to get some data with a version of the ducktail mounted on a mule.

It’s pretty early, but they are not going to introduce a ducktail for a regular 911 to upstage the Carrera RS.  That would make no sense.  The reason there has not been a ducktail since 991.1 is to make a big splash with the RS, imo...

A Carrera RS is long overdue. Basically a light weight, stripped off 992 GT3 Touring, sounds great. kiss

But its 4.2L NA F-6 will have as much (or more) power as 992 GT3 RS (if still NA), Manual gearbox, and lots of nice cosmetic touches.

Not very excited to be direct. To me the car is a 991.2 facelift and I cannot get over the rear part. It is too high and dominant. The cabrio looks like a shooting brake without a roof because the rear is almost as high as the windscreen.

Anyway, I might warm to the 992, but at the moment I think the shape of the 991 is far more attractive.

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

The 992 hasn't brought huge excitement because the previous 911 models, from the 997.2 onwards are so perfect that the need for a new 911 is not so strong. Better wait for the 992.2.

The main attraction of the 992 is its novelty value in the context of the industry's trend to replace models every 7-8 years in order to generate fresh sales. Think that the 911 G series lasted for 16 years and those cars were considered perfectly satisfactory and are sought after today......Smiley

It says that the 911 is not just one model but a polyvalent platform yielding a wide variety of models that appeal to different preferences and needs: coupe vs cabrio vs targa, rwd vs awd, Carrera vs GTS vs Turbo, GT3/RS, special editions, etc... So far only the Carrera coupe and cab has been introduced

Yes! It's the way way tooooooooooooooo biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg

I absolutely loved the interior, and it drives too much, but I still can not bring myself to ordering one.

Literally I feel like I'm piloting a Panamera when I drove one. They know it too, I told them immediately when I got out of the car. The answer was that we need to make cars bigger because of the 'Americans'. I won't name who said that though. He knows I like smaller 911s and I told them before that the 991 was already too big.

Same here ... unfortunately . With all their magic the 992 will be larger, heavier and faster than the 991, but for me it's the wrong direction. My guess is, that they are aging well with their loyal customer base, which now is 50+

The audience on this site is not the target for the mainstream 992 - its the GT cars we crave. I have done almost 1,000 miles in mine now - its a smooth GT car for everyday use that has convincing sporty capabilities when pushed. That's what I expected it to do and that is what it does with no fuss. I do find the artificial noise piped in to the cabin irritating though.

I had a brand new 992 4S as a loaner just the other day and wasn't impressed with the cabin noise, even with sport exhaust engaged...if I were in the market for a 992 I would only option the sport exhaust because of the exterior (layout of the pipes)...my Cayman 981 GTS or any GT-991-car sound like "wow!" in comparison... and the suspension (normal) is just a bit less comfy than my super-comfy BMW 5 DD...

Once the 992 gets hybrid tech (facelift), the car is becoming attractive. Right now, it is a very nice evolution of the 991.2 but the 991.2 was already so perfect...not easy.

Hybrid tech would be interesting but OTOH it will add more weight and complexity to a sportscar that is already becoming heavier and more elaborate.

Hybrids will most probably also generate more maintenance costs in the case of longer term ownership and they might be a drawback on resale.

I am not sure about their attractiveness

I was in the market for a 992 but decided to refresh my 997.2. New dampers & springs, brakes, radiators and rubbers allround. 992 still to expensive, and the dimensions don’t help either. Still love the nimble 997 experience.

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

I still have my 997.2 S RWD too and I enjoy this car more and more. The dimensions are perfect for the city and importantly for country lanes and mountain roads, where I enjoy driving. The handling is perfect and very involving even at reasonable speeds. The 992 Carrera, I find too clinical and probably too comfortable. The 992 GT models might be a different story but they are outside my driving needs.

Nick, my understanding is that the 992 is identical in dimensions to the 991, except for the fender flares (992 Carrera has stance like 991 GT3).  I thought the part where the large American asses are located hasn't grown at all...

I think all the watercooled cars are too big for my taste, but didn't think things have changed for the last couple generations...
