    Back on topic Smiley

I never read such a negative article on any Porsche sportscar coming from EVO Smiley:

    http://www.evo.co.uk/porsche/boxster/17792/porsche-718-boxster-review-why-everything-porsche-touches-doesn-t-always-turn

According to the article the 2.0 L + PDK must be an aweful Combo   Smiley If they are right with their assessment of the 2.0 then the non-S may not be the smart buy at all (as some assumed just judging from the numbers)

+1  Thanks for sharing Porsche-Jeck . Me too, never ever read such a critical article about a Porsche product. I am now even more curious to test drive a 718 and a 718 S.

The frustration is that the 718 is such a great car, and significantly better than 981 in many areas (steering, PDK, PCM etc) - but the sum total of those improvements is more than negated by "that" engine. If the next GTS has even 400 bhp with a four cylinder engine I still wouldn't want one.Smiley

    Re: 718 Boxster

@Dreamcar, interesting perspective. I can`t comment on the 718 as I haven`t driven one and I am looking forward to it. But.. I thought Porsche would pull it off (as they always did) . Now reading your posts , the reviews and some friends feedback of the 718 , one has doubts  . Sales numbers will tell.

    Re: 718 Boxster

    Sales numbers will tell.

Yes, this will be interesting.  They can't really revert to Flat-6 motors very easily, so I wonder if hybrid development would be hurried along?  Having electric torque fill has some advantages with the turbo Flat-4, at the expensive of more weight...

We'll probably see that the segment of buyers put off by the lack of 6-cyl is inconsequential.. surprise

    Re: 718 Boxster

Out of curiosity, I arranged for a test-drive of a base 718 Boxster over the coming weekend. I will report back on my initial impressions.

    Re: 718 Boxster

Well, in a nutshell, EVO and dreamcar make very valid points. The car itself is great, as dreamcar stated, but the sound of the engine (in this case the base Boxster), very much reminded me of the long-gone days of a souped-up Beetle engine.

Turning on the sport exhaust mode made matters significantly, and almost embarassingly, worse, and the articial crackling sound is just ridiculous.

Turn the damned thing off, and sport mode on, and you get a more muted non-descript sound one can probably just about live with, coupled with a fairly impressive performance in terms of power and torque, the chassis is great anyway.

I can sign this 100%... Smiley The artificial crackling sound is embarrassing. Smiley

    Re: 718 Boxster

I could have got a brand new 718 Boxster S or ordered a new Cayman S but got an older 2014 Cayman GTS. The 2.5 engine is, to me not nice at all bordering of horrible. I actually much prefer the 2.0, sounds nicer as well to me. Not impressed by these new cars, sorry but its just not for me. The cost is silly by the time you add it up it wasnt much more for something slightly older but with 6 or more cylinders. After the GTS its a GT4 or something along those lines.

You made the right choice IMO Smiley Never have I been so dissolutioned with a new Porsche sports car as I was with the 718, yet SWMBO loved it. But she was more into the comfort seats she still misses from our beloved '06 Boxster S we couldn't have in our current GTS,  the rear parking camera and the much improved navigation system. I'd agree with her if it wasn't for those horrible engines Smiley

I heard only from leaking oel sumps. But this can be fixed by the dealer.

It's like almost all times, not buy a car with a new engine or completly new car in the first year.....
It's worse than 10 years ago, because of much more complexity in the cars.
The first year buyers are the beta testers.

I test drove the 718 this morning . Nice Subaru engine smiley

I tried the car directly after I tried the 991.2  and the 718 felt mice more alive and fun .  The engine does go well and hardly any turbo lag . Much less then in the 991.2 .  Lots of torque , the car goes well .  But....  only torque . To me it does not have the appeal of a higher reving 6 cylinder , even if the car was actually quite fun to drive .

    the 2.5 S

The 2.0 is the less coarse of the two. If I had to have a 718 I'd choose the lower powered one for that reason.
