The difference is the 991 GT3 had a wing.. Those that didn’t want one had the option for their car to look like a run of the mill 991 911.

Is Porsche planning to make all 992 models almost look alike?surprise

There is no difference, you'll just have the same choice. 991 GT3 and GT3 Touring, with and without wing. SmileySmiley

    Re: 992 GT3 Touring...

I think that the wings on the normal GT3s from 996 to 991 are quite moderate and they suit this type of car. The wings on the RS models are more extreme and don't blend very well in any environment outside the race track because that is the domain of the RS.

A wingless GT3 looks somewhat castrated IMO. I might understand the Touring version if it had rear seats, a choice of PDK and a more pliable suspension. But as it is.....Smiley

Definitely think the 992 works better without the wing, styling too busy otherwise.

    Re: 992 GT3 Touring...

It seems that the new wing will be of the "swan neck" variety. However, the mounts/brackets that appear solid on the test vehicles, and spoil the appearance,  are probably camouflaged. I expect the final wing to be at least as good looking as on the previous GT3 generations.

BTW the new Carrera seems better value at €105.000 and 385PS is more than adequate for day to day driving in the real world  kiss

Not any Golf but a Golf R at around EUR 50.000 will make a great daily all-weather fast car but not as satisfying as a Carrera sportscar.

The extra horsepower of the Carrera S  can be frustrating unless you can have opportunities to frequently use it on the road. Besides the basic Carrera's 19"/20" wheels will make handling sweeter and the ride more pliant.

    Re: 992 GT3 Touring...

Going by this weeks spy pictures of the basically finished production 992 Turbo (launches in the next few months) it appears we will finallt be treated to some new Calipers and roptors for the 992 GT3 (assumes as prior generations the brake set is also carried to the GT3).

What we are seeing here is a similar outside diameter front PCCB rotor but with a smakker inside "hat" to give a thicker rotor annular. The caliper is wider to allow the pistons to square off equadistant across a larger pad (the current PCCB Calipers on my 991.2 GT3 have the pad poking out and extending beyond the caliper body). It also appears from enlarging a number of last weeks spy pictures that the caliper is much more open around the back (ventilation and if they are kind, a pin and backing plate bridge system to allow easier pad swaps).

It would appear from comparing the pictures to my own set up that the rotor and pad swept area have now increased by 10-15% up front (a useful advantage to heat dissipation). It would be really great if they have retained the stiffness of the fixed bridge system while making the caliper lighter and the pistons larger.

This is great news as the current Brembo GTurbo/GT3 package has been in use since 2012 and suffers from a number of design maladys which make pad changes a PITA and also lead to pad taper and other issue son heavily tracked cars.

One would hope the new brake system will be carried over to the steel rotor set up. Ive seen some Turbo proptype spy pictures online with the steel rotors that suggest we are looking at a new floating design with a alloy rather than cast bell which is long over due IMO (especuially for the 600 Euro a piece PAG charge for replacement discs for the GT3!).

I guess we will know for certain when the Turbo breaks cover shortly....

    Re: 992 GT3 Touring...

these calipers are already too big and seriously fat in weight. making them bigger will not help at all in term of mass but yes the previous tech is not the best, they could do this in many different ways but I guess the cheap one will win again.

I agree the existing 991.1 GT3 calipers are too heavy. I see larger back cut outs with the new design which should offset a fair bit of the increase in mass. I agree Porsche have Brembo on a budget here but it would be nice if they were able to lighten the caliper using the same techniques as the Radi Cal set ups that Racebrakes and others sell. Ive looked at about a dozen images of the new caliper some fairly high resolution and it does seem there is a deliverate design change here - hopefully for easier pad swaps and its obvious for better ventillation....

Grant. The new 10 pistone PCCB brake package will launch in a few weeks with the 992 Turbo S. I believe that is what we may get with the 992 GT3 (if PCCB ordered). Not sure we will see a change with the steel set up but I hoe they follow suit. You can see the 992 Turbo PCCB set up in detail on a number of virtually un camoflauged spy shots recently. The inner bell is smaller to help with heat dissipation and teh rotor annular is wider although the overall diameter looks no larger than 420mm....

Thanks, Mark!  In the past, the iron and PCCB brakes used the same caliper (with different mounting radius), so hopefully again here.  Glad to hear it's not going to be the behemoth calipers from the Cayenne Turbo/S. Smiley

I imagine the diameter does not have to be much larger than 410mm to give the claimed 14% greater swept area. Smiley

Yes, the 992 has a more muscular look but it still will sound like crap. Smiley

True but while the 991.1 and especially the 991.2 sound good, the 991.3 is a different story, even if it sounds better than expected. The 992 will be a different story though I'm afraid...not only Porsche has this issue, AMG too.
