    Carrera GT rear grills

    I saw a silver CGT at a dealership this weekend and noticed that the rear grills (e.g., ones over the engine compartment) were painted silver. Is this standard?

    I believe it is standard - and it is not painted. It's aluminum I think. It is in a honeycomb pattern.

    Mine was aluminium, silver in color, not annodized.

    the carrera GT option list is VERY short, which is the way it should be...

    Yes, the "negligee", as referred to by CGT designers "because it reveals much but not all of what's underneath", is a honeycomb/hexagonal pattern stamped from a stainless steel sheet not aluminum. The smaller honeycomb grill under the rear wing is also from the same material. I cannot confirm if the steel in both grills is the same H400 austenitic stainless steel used in the side frame members (longitudinal front and rear crash deformation arms). If the steel is the same, here's some interesting information about it:

    MAVERICK, thanks for the article links. I had a feeling it was not aluminum after I touched it. It feels too rigid for aluminum of that thickness.
