Good question, it's always a gamble, usually Audi play it the best as the pour a lot of money as big sponsor into it.
Black Falcon had the better pit stop strategy compared to HTP and then with Maro Engel a former Mercedes DTM driver who didn't take any prisoners on the Grand Prix circuit with that last last move!

Yes, very dissapointing.
Sure , the car has the potential to become competitive...if given the right BoP. I believe they were running with 34.5mm restrictors on each side. If they were increased to say 36mm on each side, it could have been an excellent Porsche & Mercedes battle.

The Green Hell once again proved the origin of its name - absolute mayhem an hour or so into the race.
Watched mostly during the night at Breidscheid from about midnight till 5 AM. Great atmosphere, great place..this and Le Mans 24hr are definitively my fav motorsport events.
Really liked the E34 btw!

Yes, they originally had 33mm , so they were increased by just 1mm. This was clearly not enough , given that Mercedes were allowed to keep their current BoP (due to profound sand bagging in the first 3 VLN races). If the regulators wanted to allow Mercedes to keep their current BoP, they should have increased Porsche's BoP by a significant margin/

I think you hit a point there. With the number of cars Merc and Audi throw into these races, and the stat of survival, Porsche is already down irrespective of BOP. When the race then is hit by rain etc, Merc/Audi will have options to send "test" cars out on different tyres making the risk for their front runners smaller.
