Croatian Trackday
Man, what a technical circuit!
I had never been to the Rieka circuit before, and what welcomed us was one hell of a circuit, very twisty, with almost every bend set on a differnt gradient, and not one symmetrical entry and exit.
To top it off the asphalt was probably from the 1920s, very grippy, but not forgiving.
Very technical but loads of fun.
The group included around 10 Elises (not one was stock ) 4-5 Exiges (a couple of which were more racers than street cars), two 360s ( ), one braand new Lotus Esprit with factory power hike to 450 HP!! and Lotus track biased suspension, and a Westfield Megabusa .
There were very high expectations for the outrageously quick Westfield (take my word for it ) but unfortunately it had an engine problem that sidelined it after only 6 laps.
Despite the track being less favorable to the Modena and perfectly suited to the light and grippy Elises and Exiges, I turned out 3rd out of 26 cars, only bettered by 1 very well running Exige and an Elise with in excess of 200 hp, a straight teeth (I hope it's correct) short ratio gearbox, driven by an ex F3 racer (he was quicker than me by 1/10th of a sec damn it! ).
One funny thing: during the evening the Esprit owner with his new highly modded car was blatting about how there was no way that with all his power and his suspension I could have been able to keep up with him.I let him speak.
On the track as I was going out first on the second session I saw the guy jump into the car and rush behind me.
First lap very easy to build the temperatures nd as I started to push it on the second lap I only saw him in my rearview mirror for half a lap, than he disappeared.
His best lap of the day was 6 seconds slower than mine .
A fantastic weekend, with wonderful people, especially saturday night at the croatian Night club...
But that is a topic for a different board!
