    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

    SciFrog:
    Dynamics:

Grant, much appreciate the welcome and the clarification re: GPF specs.

    I live in San Francisco.

Probably like many on rennteam, I view any weight not deployed for passive safety to be the enemy of performance, stability, precision, active safety....and, ultimately, driving enjoyment.

Hopefully, weight-saving advances like the Speedster exhaust, carbon fiber roofs, carbon fiber or magnesium wheels, etc will proliferate, such that these technologies are rapidly iterated and costs can decrease via scale efficiencies.

My sense is Porsche's scale of 911 production and the possible immense profitability of these weight-saving options may represent a major potential advantage over other, competing, but lower-volume, manufacturers in coming years, as they all must engineer profitable products vs these difficult regulations to survive.

That is not Porsche way because it would reduce their margins... Marketing dictates that they do as little changes as possible from one iteration to another. They try to get away with the minimum possible. While they keep raising the prices like crazy, their margins have greatly gone up, especially on the higher end models and high optioned vehicles. This also has the huge side effect to be able to keep aside some of the advances for the next revisions.

The regular 911 is the leader in its segment because it was well engineered, fast enough and had great value. But the needles have moved a lot. Prices have exploded while others like McLaren have pushed the enveloppe with carbon tubs for example. 911 have also lost a lot of emotions due to anemic sound and sportiness giving way for confort.

GTx cars are now the real sport car in the lineup. Sadly you have to live with a huge wing, no rear seat and no PDK in some models, again all dictated by marketing. On top of it they have an atrocious allocation system for these high demand models that have disgusted even some of the most pro Porsche people around here, ala Ferrari.

Porsche is doing very well, but there will be a time where they will have to be very careful because things are changing.

No, really, why don't you tell us how you really feel about Porsche?Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

I've noticed most photographs of WP cars that I have seen online plus one car I saw in personally don't have the CF steering wheel trim contrary to how the WP components are described in the marketing and configurator.

I emailed the salesman regarding this in relation to my car expected in 2 months but after 1 week, no reply. Before I go further up the food chain at the dealer does anyone know anything about this? Will it be a retrofit like the CF hoods on earlier 3RS's or the magnesium wheels on the 2RS's?

so there will be more 991.2 gt3rs coming to the usa?

    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

Thanks Gnil, I'll see if my dealer is aware of this.

WRT US I suspect it may be like Aus with final deliveries probably due in late June or July. I asked for my car to be left to the end partly due to a medical issue preventing me from taking delivery earlier and financial as my 720 only arrived a month ago so a bit short of the folding stuff!

Sounds like we here will get the non-PPF exhaust and presumably original single throttle body motor which in some ways is a bit disappointing as I would have accepted the PPF to get the individual TBs and in any case the PPF is not a legal requirement here and could be removed.

    ITB is only for speedster.

991.2 GT3RS will be produced till the end of this year, which month exactly is not yet clear but for sure will not continue in 2020.

I also would take ITB's and Filters if given a choice.  However, the way the new filtered cars are built does not provide the assumed improvement when removing the filters.  As I understand, the ECU is tuned to expect the flow and backpressure characteristics of the filters (or mesh substitutes in markets that don't require filters) and there is no benefit to removing them...

Cool idea - do you have a shop that is able to weld in the chassis mounting locations (that do not exist on the US chassis)?

Has someone  who ordered a 991.3 GT3 RS a confirmed delivery date ?  Heard rumors, that there will be delays because of missing operation permit ("Betriebserlaubnis").  Mine is supposed to arrive in September and a significant delay could mean, that the car will sit in the garage until April next year.

    Thanks, Rick

    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

Mine was supposed to arrive next week, but last word was it will be another couple of weeks. Not been notified of any further delays.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

Total 911 production per year is less than 60k I think 13k seems a bit high

    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

The 13k is thoroughout the entire 991 GT'RS producción cycle though, not just one year, in that sense it doesn't seem too far fetched if the numbers thrown around just for the 991.1GT3RS where 5k.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

I have felt for some years now that PAG has a strategy of multiplying the GT range models to effectively become a separate 911 range, especially if they can stay NA within regulations.  The standard 911s will drift to becoming more Grand Tourers, opening up new sales for them, while diehards can just pay up for the GT models, which are being made in substantial numbers as indicated above.
