    Lotus Type 130

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B03UPE_GDmQ

We’d all heard the rumors and Lotus has just confirmed that it is developing its first-ever hypercar and has revealed the first teaser image of the vehicle at the Shanghai Auto Show.

The British car manufacturer notes that the car will be its first all-new product in more than a decade and has dubbed it ‘Type 130’. Limited details about the vehicle have been released other than the fact that it will feature an all-electric powertrain.

The sole teaser image released of the vehicle reveals that it will feature a very sleek exterior design. According to Car Advice, it will be roughly the same length as the Lotus Evora but be much wider. The teaser also shows airflow making its way across the exterior of the Type 130, confirming that the British car manufacturer is very focused on the aerodynamics of the vehicle.

Underpinning the Lotus Type 130 will be a bespoke carbon fiber monocoque with electric motors driving all four wheels and a battery pack located directly behind the passenger compartment. Williams Advanced Engineering is the company responsible for developing the Type 130’s powertrain and while no power details are known, the car is tipped to have at least 1000 hp. The Type 130 will also include a number of active aerodynamic components and incorporate cameras in place of traditional wing mirrors which can retract into the body of the car.

The car will be unveiled in full later this year.

Re: Lotus Type 130 (electric hypercar)

Yeah, kind of a bummer for me too, as was hoping for something more relevant to the average buyer (i.e. a new Elise or hell even a new SUV).

BTW, we do have a Lotus sub-forum!  But first they need to release something for us to discuss.

    I totally missed it.

I thought they would reveal more info about the upcoming SUV.

2020 Lotus Evija EV Hypercar Debuts With Nearly 2,000 HP

    1,973 horsepower (1,471 kilowatts)
four electric motors capable of generating 493hp (368 kW) each.

70kWh battery  and with all four wheels on accelerative duty

    Single-piece carbon fiber monocoque chassis

All the components  plugged in it should weigh around 1,680 kilograms(3,704 pounds).

    0 to 100km/h in under 3 seconds
    0 to 200km/h in under 6 seconds
    0 to 300km/h in under 9 seconds

The hypercar has a targeted range of approximately 250 miles, but more  importantly, its battery pack is capable of getting a complete recharge  in just nine minutes.  That’s almost as quick as a typical fuel stop, but there is a notable  catch. It requires an 800kW charger, of which none exist just yet.

350kW chargers are the highest-powered systems currently available, but  that can still recharge the Evija to 80 percent capacity in 12 minutes.

    130 units

target price between €1.5 and €2 million

It looks awesome and the specs are out of this world... But 70kwh battery? In spirited driving that will be less than 100 miles... Competition vapor ware specs are 200kwh and they do not even give real acceleration numbers... but hey they have to start somewhere, A+ for effort and pushing the enveloppe kiss

Shmee mentioned it takes 8.6secs from 0 to 300km/h.

Looks great, but looks sort of generically great for a hypercar of late (reminds me strongly of Aston Martin Valhalla for example)…

True, the back is really the only adventurous bit of styling. Spectacular was probably the wrong word. I just think all the proportions look right and the end result very cohesive, almost elegant. I’d much rather that than wild styling which looks overdone and dates overnight.

    0-300km/h

    ..............Lotus Evija: under 9secs (8.6s ? Shmee mentioned) (2000HP / ~1680kg / 70kWh battery)

    .........Rimac C_Two: under 11secs (1914HP / ~1950kg / 120kWh battery)

    Pininfarina Battista: under 12secs (1903HP / weight? / 120kWh battery)

Really, who is waiting for this? With all these >1500hp electric supercars being announced (Lotus, Rimac, Pininfarina, ...), how would they ever expect to find buyers for it? The technology is evolving at a rapid pace and this stuff will be outdated the moment they're released, the price tags are absurd, and the drivetrain is generic at best... I really don't get it. yes

Smiley Congratulations, you actually pointed out the biggest flaw of the new electrification revolution in Hypercars. Smiley  Classic (hyper)cars will always keep some sort of value, even if not only for sentimental reasons but electrical hypercars? They are going to disappear faster than they can drive. Smiley

These cars are technology carrier to raise the image of a car brand. Nothing else. And Lotus needs it, badly.

Hopefully it is not vaporware like in the past. It would be nice to see Lotus being competitive and thrive again.

Re: Lotus Type 130 (electric hypercar)

It's a promising start to the Geely era. I think you have to give them time to get their new model plan under way. Their CEP Phil Poppham appears to be a grounded guy and not one to over promise. Geely have turned Volvo around and look set to make an interesting mark with Pole Star in the EV market.

    https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/industry/lotus-ceo-phil-popham-evija-hypercar-future-plans-and-brexit

Lotus are under way with their SUV which should help generate cash flow to allow the development of the £50-100k range of sports cars. I think this segment is going to be of far greater importance going forward with proposed EU speed controls etc making light, driver focused, more raw and involving cars far more attractive to owners.

Yeah, something like a Ferrari F50 is still very cool 30 years later.  These EV’s will have all the glamour of a Pong video game in a couple decades (probably sooner).
