Great choice Whoopsy, congrats ! Very much hope that you'll take it to your track at least once and report indecision

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

Headlamp and taillamp clusters of the Taycan are way too much for this car.

You’ve seen the final product?   All I’ve seen are camouflaged prototypes with fairly well hidden details of the front and rear of the car.

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

This is exactly the design mission of the e-tron and it is a gateway vehicle to deliver a similar experience as the corresponding ICE Audi SUVs.  While range may be slightly limited, its charging profile, albeit more timely, is similar to refueling with petro.  No one needs to compute the impact of charging taper vs. SoC.   Leave those technical issues to the Tesla club.

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

Congrats on the ETron, the interior is “standard” Audi, very nice and since you don’t care about range, it is the best choice for you. Since you will drive only in the city, you might not be able to give us real usable range on the highway (150 miles is my guess).

The trunk of the X is bigger when you use only 5 seats. It is not in the same category. And it has a trunk in the front too, and an extra trunk in the bottom rear. Interior is minimalist and it has a lot of glass around. They are completely different cars, for the city the X is too big anyway, which is where the vaporware Y will come in, and will compete with the ETron on the strong Tesla aspects: performance, range, autopilot and minimalist interior. And it will be much cheaper at equivalent price and range (30% +). Once again, you get what you pay for.

Yes standard Audi, which also means it's better than 99.99% of car interiors on the market, EV or not.

And no, EV is not designed for highways, they never were, as the constant high speed with no braking regeneration are the worse enemy for EV, so I am not taking it for road trips, I have the Panamera Turbo S for that purpose.

It also means I won't be taking it to the track, the standard published range is not enough to get to my track which is 400km away. Pointless to have to stop in the middle and waste time to charge it. While a Tesla would make the trip in one go, it will also needed to be recharged before getting on track, so it's also pointless.

People get the Model X because it has 7 seats, no? So if one folds the last row and use only 5, what's the point of getting it in the first place? Tesla minimalist interior is not a 'feature', it's a design and budget fault. For the price of a Model S/X, one really expects a nicer richer interior.

Whoopsy: Tesla minimalist interior is not a 'feature', it's a design and budget fault. For the price of a Model S/X, one really expects a nicer richer interior.

This. Minimalist interior is not category where anybody wants to compete, it is like if a Tata or Dacia lists minimalist interior as a feature  it is the absence of features, design elements, creativity, build complications, etc. Only those emotionally invested in a Tesla will make themselves believe that it is nice in any way and rationalise it and believe it, that is how the brain works.

I haven't driven the E-tron but I have seen one exposed close up, it looks fairly good inside out, I wouldn't mind being seen driving one, which is something that cannot be said of any EV in the market (Taycan is not out yet), so if the range suits your needs then it is the best choice imo, congrats. Looking forward to your daily use impressions, I know that you could not give a crap if it is good or bad either way and are not on any EV kool aid and will speak objectively about it.

    You guys are funny.

Nick, welcome to the EV world. I feel the ETron will be too slow for your habits but at least it has a nice interior, since that’s the only superior feature it has. Can’t wait for Nick review saying it’s too slow and does not have enough range so EVs are not ready for prime time smiley

Lol, I have a slower car still, my Honda Ridgeline

During my test drive, Audi put something there that should be praised.

Congrats on the eTron...I am curious how you'll like it. Saw one just yesterday, my wife was quite surprised with the camera side mirrors, they looked so cool. I thought they aren't homologated yet in Germany but apparently...car had Munich license plates.

It hauls stuff better than my old Odyssey.

Full size pickup are too big for my house so had to find mid size, do't like any of the domestic offerings.

Oh I love how may touch screens are inside. In fact, I think there is't enough. Audi should replace all the door buttons with touch screens, and it should switch from operating the windows to opening the door within the same screen.

Replace the steering wheel also with a touch screen should be another great idea, swipe left to turn left and swipe right to turn right, switch the screen for throttle and brake control, switch to another screen for turn signals and another screen for wipers control.

If a touch screen is consider 'safe' for operating infotainment system inside a car, it of course will bee safe to use as steering and throttle control!

Touch screen is the greatest invention to get people's attention completely.

One cannot operate a touch screen without looking at it, it demands 100% attention.

Since driving a car supposed to demand 100% attention, so replacing every single control in a car with a touch screen is the best approach to make people spend 100% of their attention on driving smiley

Re: Porsche Mission E...the future of Porsche?

Just drove behind a Taycan turbo on the highway A8 nearby Weissach. I was with my S 63AMG and when he pushed I didn`t have any chance to follow him.

My car was loud and his silent - I did feel a little bit outdated in my car (which is 2 month old).

At the "Auto Motor Sport" website some technical dat of the Taycan are "revealed". My dealer gave me other starting prices, much higher. I wonder if the range of 515 is correct.
