Forgot to tell you, guys: I had the chance to drive the new Aventador S and it was the biggest disappointment.
Before you get upset with me (yes, the Aventador has always been my dream car but I never owned one), keep in mind that I still think the Aventador looks amazing, it is a piece of art in the sports car world. The details are so beautiful, even if some parts of the car and especially the interior look outdated.
So why was it a disappointment? Well:
1. Gearbox still jerky (really!), especially in Strada auto mode. If you like to mimic a bobblehead, you'll enjoy it though.
2. Even in Corsa mode, the shifting is no real fun, the jerkiness feels more like some sort of lag, it is difficult to explain. The gearbox is fast but it just doesn't feel right.
3. Under 6000 rpm, the Aventador S isn't really loud...or better said...it doesn't create much emotions with the exhaust sound. In the Huracan Performante or Evo, you get goosebumps slightly over 2000 rpm. In the Aventador S, the (exhaust) fun starts at around 6000 rpm and actually is really enjoyable over 7000 rpm only. Now I guess we all know why Aventador S drivers rev their cars that high at stop lights or in city centers. They want to hear something. At all. In comparison: Gercollector had his Aventador SV with him and it sounded insane, even at (slightly) lower rpms.
Definitely not a car for me.
What I liked? Well:
1. Very comfortable ride, even in Corsa mode. Easy to drive (seriously!), steering setup very good but a bit on the light side for my taste, close to the Evo, maybe a little bit lighter.
2. Size of the car didn't pose any issue, actually it felt quite nimble and "small". I don't get why some owners or people who test-drove the car criticize the size. You really don't feel it, neither do you feel the weight (I guess the RWS does some wonders here).
3. Looks: Oh boy, where do I start? The engine bay alone is a piece of art.
Conclusion: I am happy I didn't even consider the Aventador, the Huracan Performante "fits" me and my driving style perfectly. If I wouldn't have the Performante, I would have gone for the new Evo. Without a single doubt.
