    RC:
    CGX car nut:

General Motors announced a major restructuring last week with key members of the Corvette Development team being moved to autonomous and EV product development.   https://insideevs.com/news/441210/gm-corvette-engineering-team-ev/

Earlier today, General Motors and Honda announced a strategic alliance for North American vehicle development.  https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/general-motors/2020/09/03/general-motors-honda-partnership-north-america/5701104002/

It doesn't take much to string the pieces together that General Motors and Honda are taking the nascent steps of a merger and certain products will face the chopping block as the product portfolio needs reduction to increase the global competitiveness of the new merged entity.

So I guess we are seeing a C8 NSX hybrid soon? Smiley

Huge GM brake recall including a Stop Sale in the US...this includes the C8 as well.

As far as I understood, there is no solution yet for this serious safety issue.

Production numbers: apparently GM still believes it can fill the 20,180 C8 orders for 2020.  Plant now has double shifts, and has now hit weekly rates of 800 cars/week, a theoretical annual capacity of over 41,000.  2020 production didn't begin until early February, and Covid related parts supply glitches have been impacting production and the ramp up for this completely new vehicle. So it will be in the end not a bad first year...

Local dealer here expects first C8 Z51 Convertible with V8 and Euro specs(!) around November 2021Smiley Insane, this means in one year from now on. The car will probably sound like crap too. I hope not. Price will be interesting though, around 109k EUR. Current imported C8 Z51 Coupes are sold for around 117-120k EUR.

Latest I have read is expected sometime second half of 2021, as a 2022 model.  Of course covid related issues could still impact this, or indeed continued strong sales of the normal C8.

I think Porsche is doing fine, since it doesn't take 500 miles in a Porsche for the "oil to coat all the parts" in the engine.   Smiley

Cadillac managed to sellout the order book on the Blackwings albeit it only 250 units for both models. It’s not clear if Cadillac will offer the cars as ordinary production models.  If they don’t, that’s a shame.

    Re: Corvette C8

All that engineering and development work for 250 units?

    Re: Corvette C8

Happened before at General Motors.  See the Cadillac CT6-V Blackwing with a clean sheet advanced V8.  GM built 800 and scrapped the motor. https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/car-technology/a32718026/what-happened-to-the-cadillac-blackwing-v-8/

I don't think those cars will share engines with the upper models of the C8.

Rumors suggest that the 3 top C8 models will all use variants of a new Flat-Plane crank 5.5L V8 (no relation to the 6.2L in the base C8 or the Cadillacs).

    C8 Z06 NA 5.5L with 9k redline and ~650hp

C8 ZR1 with 5.5L motor above with Twin Turbos ~800hp and way more torque than above

C8 Zora with 5.5 motor with Twin Turbo Above and Hybrid Electric Motor assist and AWD - over 1,000hp combined

    Re: Corvette C8

C8 upper level variants are intriguing... If GM will spend a little more on the interior and tighten up the design this can be a world class super car.

There’s speculation since Monday that the supercharged 6.2l V8 in the CT5-V Blackwing is destined for a C8 variant since the engine is being built in Bowling Green. Recall that I had posted about a year ago the Corvette engineering teams were being assigned to different projects because General Motors is moving to an all EV model line up over the next few years and has essentially stopped development on the Corvette. Their Super Bowl commercial is focused on EVs from Cadillac, GMC, and Chevrolet.  What was known when the C8 was introduced doesn’t mean it is still scheduled for release.

Sometimes I feel like those of us that like ICE cars are sort of those old dudes that ride Harleys...

    Re: Corvette C8

I know exactly what you mean.  Look at the resistance some posters here have when we express interest in ICEs versus an EV.  An EV isn’t the future but a revisitation of the past.  Over a hundred and ten years ago EVs were the preferred prime mover for the automobile.  The issues that plagued EVs back then are the same issues that plague EVs today.

Thanks - do you think this Supercharged 6.2L would replace the 5.5L in one of the models I mentioned above or it will be in a 4th higher performance model (like Grand Sport)?

    Re: Corvette C8

I'm really not sure other than that General Motors has curtailed the ICE development teams and the Corvette is one of the victims.  Introducing a supercharged 6.2l V8 would require less engineering work than the 5.5L unless exterior dimensions are relatively similar.

There is a recent Motor Trend Video of a C8 mule lapping Willow Springs and it sounds like a 9k rpm Flat-Plane motor - definitely not a 6.2L with SC...

Pretty sure the 5.5L is already developed...
