    Recall 991.2 3l turbo (issue with turbo’s)

    Hello

Yesterday I have had my Carrera 991.2 from 2016 on the powerbank because I planned to have a chiptuning but both my turbo’s went to hell when having 330HP.

As the car is out of warranty for 9 months, the cost for the turbos only is above 6500€ ...

While making some calls, I was told by another known (German) tuner that there is a general recall for all 3L turbos because of...the turbos.

Does anyone know of this recall or the blown turbos in particular?

Re: Recall 991.2 3l turbo (issue with turbo’s)

Why didn't you get the Approved Warranty after the regular warranty ran out?

Yes, seems to be a known issue but I'm not aware of any official recall, just a technical note to dealers what to do.

Talk to your local Porsche dealer!

Tuning is never good, especially not for the 991.2 because the tech is pretty much specced to the OEM power, there isn't much "reserve" left in the upper power range.

    Hi Christian,

tnx for your reply. Don’t you think the parts of a Carrera or Carrera S are the same (apart from a little bit smaller turbo diameter) so compared to an S there is quite some margin?

regarding the xtra warranty: no one told/informed me but that’s probably a bad excuse.

Lets not forget, the car wasn’t tuned yet. It was the prerun that triggered it.

Do I have some negotiation space with Porsche? I have no experience with them as it is my very first P.

    What to expect?

Did you buy the car from an official dealer? You may still have the chance to get the Approved Warranty but of course it won't pay for "old" issues. I would talk to your dealer, they may be able to talk Porsche into paying at least for the parts or a partial part of the parts cost, you never know.

    Good morning everyone

The car was ordered at a German dealer and factory delivered. But I took it to Belgium as I live there.

Christian, can you elaborate on what you know about the internal note you mentioned regarding issue with turbo?

Re: Recall 991.2 3l turbo (issue with turbo’s)

Dealers seem to have a tech info about turbo charger issues (related to the overboost function and/or something mechanical, I don't remember anymore). Sorry, I don't have more, talk to a local Porsche dealer.

Re: Recall 991.2 3l turbo (issue with turbo’s)

If there was a recall I would find out definitely and make a case for myself  that I wasn't formally informed.

However, even in the absence of a recall I would negotiate with the dealer for a better price especially if there is a known issue with the turbochargers.

Have in mind that most parts cost the dealer about 1/3 of the selling price and sometimes manufacturers can agree to contribute to a goodwill payment. So, there is a lot of leeway.

Re: Recall 991.2 3l turbo (issue with turbo’s)

When the car was put on the dyno to mesure power, when getting to 330hp blue smoke came out.

‘The looked into it and saw that the turbos were ‘sweating’ and colored (because of temperature?).

Re: Recall 991.2 3l turbo (issue with turbo’s)

    Small update...

Got a call yesterday that the oil separator is the cause (a leak ?). Sparks were also dirty as hell and will be replaced too.

Unfortunately, oil separator is not in stock so I won’t have the car back before end of next week (best case).
