Will the new Ferrari be called Testarossa?

As many know, Ferrar will present a new midengined-V8 supercar end of May. It will be based on the 488/F8 and will be powered by a V8, but as a hybrid. It will have three electric motors, two at the front axle, making it AWD and one at the gear box. Total power is said to be just shy of 1.000 hp, last thing I heard was 980 hp.

So this one clearly sits above the F8/Pista, price is rumoured to be somthting like 470k, some say this already includes VAT, but definitely it doesn't include the mega expensive options typically for the latest Ferrari.

What may surprise the most is that it could be called Testarossa again, althought there is no V12 beneath the hood. Something not every enthusiast may appreciate.

Design is said to be radical, some say spaceship-like, rear lights will be LED and rectangular.

There is an instagram video of the heavily comouflaged car, but you can see the new rear light design:

Re: Will the new Ferrari be called Testarossa?

Sorry Rossi but I am pretty sure this new car won't be based on 488/F8 platform.

it's a brand new modular platform designed from the beginning to incorporate all the hybrid stuff without too much constraints.

yesterday main dealers were at maranello to see the car ,

For now we have few informations coming from this meeting but two reliables one :

    - 0 to 60 mph on 2.0 seconds .

    - Dry weight : 1600 kgs .

Design hugely inspired by 330P4 so maybe a name in ---P- ?

    1000 hp confirmed

No carbon tub according to most of insiders ,Maybe Targa only version , not sure yet .

    550- 580 k€ base price .

    not limited production run ,

Actually, if the 470k EUR entry price is correct, a very "good" offer from Ferrari.

I suspect the spread 470k is in fact without VAT, though some say differently. That would make it a 560k base price before options, which would be in line with the quoted 550k - 580k.

Re: Will the new Ferrari be called Testarossa?

Even at slightly over half a mil, this car is a "good" offer from Ferrari. Especially if the rumor is true and the car is not limited. I can already see a McLaren 1000S or whatever the name on the horizon with an entry price level of 400k, to match with the Ferrari.  McLaren has experience with hybrid tech (P1), so I wouldn't be surprised.

Not that stupid if compared to the massively successful Senna, which had a starting price of 1-Mil.

Also the useless Ferrari “one-offs” !!

As long as there is no speed limit on the Autobahn in Germany, I have to disagree. 1000 hp make a nice Autobahn power. Also, there may be some drag strips which could be fun with such a car (not really my thing though).

Otherwise, I agree...not much sense but hey, does a tourbillon watch for 500k make more sense? Smiley  Just saying. Smiley

Actually you can see it as most cars sold today are already stupidly fast. So to make people dream and spend real money, you need to go as far as possible since hp (or acceleration) just becomes a number. Today’s world is a place where speed is limited and more and more policed (except Germany) and 0-60 king is a family people mover (Tesla). So they just go for it, 1000hp sounds like a nice round number. The looser in all this? Once again Porsche. Marketing forces them to make minuscule hp increments for each new model, so bad that the 911 is now completely left behind (regardless of its track performance) and that many even here have jumped ship.

Who to blame for this? McLaren. They are pushing the envelope and forced Ferrari and Lamborghini to react, in a way Porsche has always refused to do.

Define looser... Porsche outsells all others combined with just the 911. McLaren is giving HP because they have to, while Porsche doesn't, they can pre-sell 2000 Speedsters with 500HP of an out-going gen at a markup price and profit margin McLaren can only dream off, while McLaren's value plummets as soon as their are driven off the lot. Their 991 GT cars don't need those HP numbers to sell, they are taken off their hands with waiting lists and sold with premiums on the second hand market, and while tracks are the few places you could actually take advantage of the high HP, most cars you see there are the 911 GT's with their more "modest" HP. Not sure where Porsche is loosing... they simply don't have to play the HP game which is different.

Fully agree. Some cars shine on paper - Porsche shines in real life. That is the major difference a huge majority of buyers know Smiley

Re: Will the new Ferrari be called Testarossa?

You cannot buy a GTx car or speedster if you walk into a dealer, these cars are irrelevant to nobodies like me. Plus for some of these, you need to want to live with that huge wing. It wasn’t bothering me before but now that the touring is out, it does now.

Regular 911 have abysmal resale values however, look how many here own one today... these regular 911s do not make people (here) dream anymore, they used to be good “value” but that’s been gone for about a decade. That’s what was lost.

An that is my point on why Porsche is not loosing anything in the HP war, unlike the others, they don't need to resort to that to be highly sought after by sportscar enthusiasts, and the fact that they are with less HP than their competitors says a lot the cars themselves. Personally I have no problem with them not entering the HP game as long as they keep making such great sportscars.

"Regular" 911's may not hold their value like GT or limited versions but still carry better resale values than similarly priced competitors, at least here in Europe.

No more than the Chiron does - but I have enormous respect for the engineering achievement and that in of itself justifies it both in the car world and the watch world. Combine that with design/ aesthetic beauty and often scarcity as well, and you have an irresistible formula  - certainly for me and many others. Good to see that Ferrari will milk the rank and file this time as well as those higher up the food chain SmileySmileySmiley. It will be interesting to see if Ferrari really nail the design this time and how the car is set up for street vs track use.

Re: Will the new Ferrari be called Testarossa?

People who already saw the car said it looks like the pininfarina battista .

    Others thinks more about 330p4.

    not so long to wait..

There are speed limits in Italy? Smiley Smiley

Italian police can be tough but they usually close an eye (or two) for the "proper" car. I also think that around Maranelle, Sant'Agata Bolognese, the police is more willing to close an eye when it comes to factory test drivers.

In Weissach and surroundings, it was the same many years ago but people started to complain and now it is actually not a good thing for factory drivers to speed around Weissach because the police is on the lookout for them.

Re: Will the new Ferrari be called Testarossa?

Maybe on this model they will improve the paint quality. Orange peel finish along with bird shit weld globs on subframe connections is just disgraceful and that kids is typical Ferrari build quality.  Maybe they will also stop hiding fuse blocks behind the dash also so it will no longer be necessary for 12 hours of labor to remove and replace the dashboard to change a wiper fuse.. Ferrari needs to stop treating their customers like chumps.
