Just like all Porsche models...expect Cayenne
I still wonder why they made it so boring...
Sound has to do with EU noise emissions laws, Porsche was careful not to offer something they later have to re-program (see Audi RS3) because there could be complaints. As weird as this may sound.
Everything else? Well...the Carrera is no GT model, so I guess they want to offer more GT models for the hardcore Porsche junkies and more "drivable" cars for the rest of customers. If it is true that they are going to offer a GT3 Touring Cab, you can clearly see where this is going. They are trying to fill all niches to make customers happy. Especially since Porsche has now to compensate for the "loss" of the Diesel models.

EnglishManInNY:This guy does such great videos. Very entertaining and informative.
Though the moderator fawns over Porsche, the video is very informative tracing the history of the 911. Thanks for posting.

Yep...and I don't have a clue why.
Saw a factory (BB license plate) black Cayenne eHybrid yesterday, towing a small trailer (either towing testing or emissions testing, trailer was covered). I actually never saw a Cayenne towing such a small trailer (only a motorboat once) and I thought to myself: Well, this is actually the perfect purpose for this car, towing. It just doesn't look sporty or very Porsche, it looks boring.
Take the new Q8 in comparison, two different worlds.
On the other hand, I met a female colleague of mine a short while ago and she told me that she ordered a Macan S, her first Porsche. She was so enthusiastic about the car, she couldn't stop raving about it. So I guess Porsche knows what they are doing, they just don't seem to appeal to us hardcore Porsche customers anymore.

cayenne/macan are wealth symbol. nothing else. boring indeed but they are selling tons of them outside Europe.
I saw the last sales details and PAG improved again the sales by +2% compared to last year even if Europe is in negative...

OK guys. So the Cayenne and Macan are boring. OK. But, if you are a two car household, and one of those cars is a sports car (mine is a '97 993 4S), and one of those is a family car, what other family cars fit the bill BETTER than a Macan or a Cayenne? That is the question I am trying to address. My Macan Turbo is up for renewal, I want a SUV as I prefer the higher driving position and increased variability versus a sedan or RS6, I want a V8 (while you still can get them), what else? A RR? My friend bought a new Discovery and it has had two full "stranding" events in the first year, so sounds risky. Don't like ML. G is a little too "flash". X? Meh. Q7 nope, Q8 is kinda cool. But, I kind of like Porsches... So I am back at the Cayenne TT. Or what else?

Land Rover Sport supercharged if you need something big, Macan turbo if you don’t. Tesla Model X if you don’t drive for long trips and have a way to charge it. Cayenne TT is also a good choice but price start to really creep up if well optioned. I believe these are the best choices on the market today for a family SUV and have owned/own all of them. They are all great cars. Q7/8 are nice but engines used to be very boring and cars too slow (haven’t looked recently).

Cayenne Coupe would fill that niche...I would go for a Merc G in a blink of an eye
I had a 2009 Cayenne Turbo S and a 2015 Cayenne Turbo. Both fantastic cars and would get another one if I still needed a family car. Drove the 2009 all over Europe and the 2015 on numerous family trips throughout the eastern U.S. Best powerful SUV by far INMHO...

996FourEss:Hard to beat a Cayenne here guys, especially one with a V8...
True, in the V8 segment, the Cayenne is hard to beat...only the Urus and the upcoming RSQ8 come to my mind.
However: Audi just released the SQ8 with a monster Diesel V8 engine (435 hp, 900 Nm torque) and we all know how much (or better said: how little) Diesel engines consume.
There is also the upcoming RSQ8 with 610 hp...probably cheaper than a Cayenne Turbo.
Then, there is Range Rover...Jaguar (the SVR versions)...even Maserati now.
Or if you want to go nuts, get a US V8 SUV, they are amazing. Especially the new Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.
For Europe, the Trackhawk is actually a very subtle performance SUV, most people view Jeep as a "true" off-roader, so the envy/hate level is low and the Trackhawk is really stealth.
My Jeep dealer just offered me a Trackhawk for slightly under 120k EUR. This sounds much but the car is fully loaded, has the full European Chrysler/Jeep warranty (no grey import!) and it is the hell of the car, the Hellcat engine is really a treat and bulletproof (as far as I heard), so is the ZF transmission used for this truck.
There are alternatives...but I get it, many love Porsche, I love Porsche but for a family car, the Cayenne Turbo has become a little bit too expensive for me.

if the cayenne is expensive, at 120k EUR for a jeep is a bad joke.
last time I sat in a Jeep, I felt the American typical finished standard and surely Porsche are overpriced but there is an infinite level of finish above the jeep.

The quality level of the Grand Cherokee has strongly improved but of course it is not on the same level with Porsche. I'd say close to the previous BMW X5 generation.
