RC, I understand that the 992 may not have “the edge“ that other powerful sports cars have. I have known and experienced those types of cars. For me, now approaching my 78th birthday, I’m appreciating some comfort and luxury, along with power, precision and performance. At least for now, until I get the bug to buy something else, the 992 provides me with just enough ease and luxury, with enough performance buried beneath it all, to satisfy me. Porsche’s idea of a daily driver, turning into a beast, is the recipe I enjoy right now.wink

I confess to the same feelings now days.  I'm not that far behind in age.   I've decided that being old doesn't need to be boring, but I'm not 25 anymore. Smiley

I am a bit far behind you two, but I have discovered that a while ago, hence why I love the turbo Ss more than any other 911 variants. Who wants climb into the uncomfortable bucket when a 18-way sofa is that much more comfortable!! Smiley

    I think delivering nearly 17,000 911 in H1 is an immense achievement given April\May were a right-off.

Makes me reevaluate my position on 992 Cab order in Q4 - meaning I may not get the discount I'm looking for if demand is maintained.

They are proposing 0% financing here. Don’t be in rush, good deals are coming.

Regarding the effects of the pandemic, my recent C-4 S (with substantial options) was turned back in by someone whose business had been quite hurt by the pandemic. The car was literally perfect, with barely 2000 miles on it. The owner took the depreciation hit, and I got the car at a substantial discount. There may be other examples like this as you look for a good “deal”.

Apologies if this was posted elsewhere.... from a week ago, an EVO print group test of 992, 570, R8, Vantage, and a Lotus.  R8 narrowly on top at the end.  Interesting that one conclusion, was that the 992 is the tipping point where the 911 really has become  too big.

I thought the 992 has exactly the same platform size as 991, except it has wider front track.  If so, I don't see how things have changed??  Does this perception come from the new interior?

Yes wider track, all Carreras are now wide body not just some, and an extra inch in front overhang therefore length.  Never much, but in a car where its precision driving is the intent, I believe even small size increases are more noticed.

I certainly notice the width of our 991 turbo compared to the old 997, not on wide highways but any narrow roads, and in town, parking lots etc.

If I understood the figures well Porsche sold 16.919 units of the 992 models during the first half of 2020.

If you consider that this is a model range starting from €104.000 and half of the range has not been available during the entire period in question, in my way of thinking this is an amazing number of 911s sold.

By way of comparison, It might take McLaren some decades or perhaps a good part of the 21st century to sell this number of their Sports Series cars, provided that they survive Smiley

991+992 in 2019 was about 36k cars with interruption of sale to swap the models, just to compare...

Already this year 2 or 3 months have been completely lost with economic repercussions for a longer period. In spite of that I foresee at least 25.000 992s and possibly 30.000 until the end of the year.

The base Carrera is an excellent product and at reasonable cost. Unless you max out everyday on the Autobahn you don't need more. Also, the engine of the S model is the same only the boost changes. In the N/A era the S model had the benefit of a bigger engine in terms of cc and the engine and driving characteristics were different. Not so much anymore.

Also, something important to consider is PAG is the VW cash cow and VW is in very deep debt, 192 billions biggest debt for a company in the world. that could turn the story into a drastic change. Smiley

I think that VW is safe given the its importance for Germany in terms of jobs, exports and why not, prestige. They cannot allow VW to fail. If taken over by the German government, we might see a rationalization of the brand range. I wonder if SEAT make any money or whether it is relevant to subsidize the industries and the image of other countries through Bentley and Lamborghini. It was publicized recently that Bentley's profitability was not satisfactory and I bet that Lamborghini's contribution is small and mostly because of the Urus.

For sure 991 is much bigger than 997.  But nobody says the 997 is much bigger than 996, since they share same platform (aside from wider fenders on some models).  Just like 991 and 992 share same platform...

Re: ROAD TEST: New 992 Carrera4S

The 997 is an ideal size for a modern 911. Stable at speed and very compact for narrow mountain roads. Give it a few centimeters of extra front track and you have the perfect sportscar IMO.

The increase in size from the 997 onwards would have been justified if it made the rear space more practical, which is not the case.

However, the 992 should be compared to contemporary cars and not to those of the past decade. All cars have become huge unfortunately. The mid-engined Ferraris are no 308 GTBs, the Huracans are no Uraccos or even Gallardos and the enormous M8 (with very poor rear space)  is no 3.0 CSL.

For those who want a compact Porsche, the Cayman/Boxster series are ideal.

indeed - if you sit into a 997 from a 991 or 992 it feels like 20 years old - but the cockpit size feels very 911 and is for me the sweet spot amongst 911 cars - where you have a lot of joy already in speed-ranges where in a 991/2 u feel nothing yet

Yes, but much smaller than the 992. Some 15cm shorter and 5cm narrower.

Indeed, the 488 looks huge vs the Huracan (maybe I can take some comparison photos with the F8 Tributo Spider even) but I really like the Pista, can't help it.

Agate Grey, with black leather/chalk stitching interior.  Rims are polished black.  Other carbon touches. Sport package with lowered suspension.

Plenty of room for a week’s worth of luggage for two people. Solid as a rock on all road surfaces. Burmester sound fantastic. Glass roof was wonderful for morning and evening touring in the countryside.

In the US, you need an occasion for showing the flag? Smiley Smiley

I have a friend who has a giant one in his front yard, 365 days a year. He even has a light for the night, shining towards the flag. I found it quite impressive because he also has a backup flag and switches them between cleaning.

The flag is on the front of Inn where we stayed in Vermont.  Vermont is a small state, with the lowest population in the US except for Wyoming, and has always been fiercely independent. It was the first state to vote to abolish slavery, and the 15th state to join the union. The people are patriotic, self-reliant and proud of their history. Flags everywhere...
