A couple of months ago, there was a 991.2 engine in one of those GT4 mules... Smiley

Can't say anything else though, that GT3 engine rumor has gone on for a while, so it is still possible.

If the new GT4 gets a GT3 engine, the prices for the "old" one will drop further, no doubt.

    Re: Cayman GT4

And the pricetag of the new one would skyrocket as the price of the GT3 is much more expensive, not sure this makes sense on a Cayman from the point of view of Porsche's model ladder in pricing and performance. IMO the safe bet would be a carrera engine like the previous gen GT4 (which was very well received), hopefully still the NA version. If they came out with an GT4RS then that would be a different matter.

If Porsche offers the new GT4 or GT4 RS or whatever with a GT3 engine, this would really be a keeper and very likely a collectible.

But could make sense if they price the "718 6" with a regular 6 cylinder, and around 380hp, in the previous GT4 level (100k), and the new GT4 with a motorsports engine above it (130-150k)

Porsche is about evolution, not revolution...so, I do not think that a Motorsport engine will make it into the GT4...but, as there is tons of rumours out in the market, we just have to wait and see...

    Re: Cayman GT4

    Agree on 'evolution'.

    There will be a Boxster '6' (also as 25th anniversary model) / Cayman '6', a Spyder / GT4 and a GT4 RS.

Powerwise 400, 420 and even up to 500 for the RS which I find quite a lot (although already available as output from the GT3-engine).

The prices I was mentioned are between €82K / €85K (Spyder/GT4) and up to €120K (RS) all without local tax. A bit 'cheap' in my opinion, but we'll see.

    Re: Cayman GT4

Presumably the Spyder is following in the second photo. Odd that these cars have failed to appear finalized after such a long gestation and yet the Cayenne Coupe materialized from seemingly nowhere.

Given current pricing I don't see how Porsche will release an RS version with a 500HP GT3 engine for less than 150k minimum imo

    Re: Cayman GT4

Carlos, I agree. Just passing on what I was told from an official meeting, nothing rehashed from the 'net.

Most of us agree that the initial GT4 was priced very aggressively, and from experience (if we compare with other pricing at Porsche) it should al least become €10K more expensive if not more... And that's just 'old engine' with manual.

All of the Flat-6 motors used now (3.0L, 3.8L TT, and 4.0L) use the same basic 9A1 or 9A2 block (crankcase, more accurately).  The differences are internal as well as cylinder heads, intakes, exhaust, etc.  So, even if the GT4 uses the same 9A1 block and even if it uses the same 4.0L displacement as the GT3, that does not mean that they will the same or even very similar.

If the GT4 has a dry sump, hollow crankshaft, Titanium conrods, and solid lifters in the valvetrain, then I am willing to call the motor the same or similar (with or without detuning).

120k plus local taxes...means 170.000€ in Spain, for example

100% agree with your definition. Especially dry sump.  I would also assume that producing and certifying two vastly different NA motors just to support marketing makes little sense.  Anyway if it is dry sump and uses the solid lifters then iit will be a gem and collectible.

I think there are still problems to have the cars homologated with the particle filters . What else could it be ?

See second batch of GT3 RS ... still not homologated to this day

The 718 Boxster / Cayman 6 limited edition was mentioned to me by my Porsche dealer principal a few weeks back so it looks likely. Great news there will be an alternative soon to the awful flat four!
