I wonder how many 991 owners would buy the 992. This car may appeal to first time Porsche buyers.yes

Btw, I see that they are offering Lizard Green as a color for the 992. That should help sell the car.

The 992 is an amazing 911 but I got bored. The 911 in general just doesn't appeal to me anymore, with the exception maybe of the GT models. Had too many 911 over the past decade, just got fed up with the interior and even with the exterior, wanted a change. First time buyers will love the new 992, so will (probably) those coming from the 991 because the 992 is faster and offers more comfort.

Not sure I like the 992 front and rear treatments, but will have to see the car in person.  Maybe at the Sebring races this weekend.  But I am at least interested in the 992 (and the Taycan) as a replacement for my Panamera when the lease runs out next year.  Had seven 911s over the years, and unlike RC, I am not bored yet...

Do you have any info about that 50th anniversary or is it just pure guessing from your part ?

Pure guessing, but I'd be surprised if they didn't capitalize on this.  911R was a far more obscure model than Carrera RS (first RS version of 911)...

They've been very fond of cashing in on their history of late:  917, 935, 911R, 718, etc...

My guess is it will be fixed ducktail spoiler, Grand Prix White paint, Fuchs style wheels from Speedster concept with colored centers (Mexico Blue, Guards Red, or Viper Green) keyed to match "Carrera" script on side of car, most powerful version of 4.0L NA, Manual gearbox (at least option), cool retro  interior trim, Limited to 1973 units (maybe).

The timing would also coincide with the end of the 992.1 - just before the cars are supplemented with electric?

Get in line now and thank me later Smiley

I wonder if the designers of the 992 purposely made several 1970's styling updates (like the creased front trunk cover, retro font on the analog tachometer and horizontal shaped dashboard), so that the retro Carrera RS will be more effective? Smiley

butler0-R3-E049 (2).jpgGrant, thanks for posting the 2.7 RS.  Many folks are not aware that there was a 3.0 RS.  Basically the homologation for the IROC RSRs. Here is my car, which I brought over new from Sonauto in 1974.  There were 106 made, and this was #106.  A handful to drive, with severe oversteer, but loads of fun.  Sadly, I didn't know what I had, and sold it three years later.  It sold at auction in 2018, for 1.4 million.  Oh well...laugh

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

As stated earlier in this thread, I am not convinced the new rear and front treatments are attractive. On the minus side, they accentuate the black plastic parts, and look a bit unfinished.  On the plus side, they do add visual width to the car, and emphasize a racing background.  Finally, they do break up the bulkiness of the 991.2 rear, especially from the side view.  Just thoughts...

Autocar  review wasn’t impressed. The Cab got four stars. They claim with each new model, they become less 911’s. Also, they referenced the escalating cost of the 911.

The 911 evolves but so do those who drive/drove the 911, time for something new ("960"). Porsche probably doesn't care yet because they sell enough cars and the prices go up because people are willing to pay them. Will be interesting to see if this is going to continue...

Volkswagen Group, and as a consequence, Porsche is moving rapidly toward electric so the future of a 960 Vehicle is now highly improbable.   The future of Porsche is the EV Macan and Taycan.  In some ways, I view the Taycan as more the next evolution of the 911 than a new entry in the product portfolio.  Sports cars have lost their collective luster with the masses, with crossovers being the preferred mode of private transportation.   The Taycan is a compromise in both camps.  It offers more room while delivering it with a very low center of gravity for high speed stability and enhanced agility.

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

A 960 could be a good alternative to everything else in the Porsche program but Porsche needs to wait for the next Huracan/Aventador generation to make it happen. They will very likely use the same platform. A hybrid is very likely in this segment, pure EVs will be available only in other categories, not sports cars (yet).

Does the potential sales volume even justify the development costs?  More likely to have the Huracan replacement share its platform with the Aventador replacement.

I don't know but it would be a shame to use the platform and tech for the Huracan/Aventador successors only. The next gen R8 is dead, this one is out of the picture.

More importantly, you sold the car for what you thought was a fair trade: Someone was willing to give you more money than you thought the car was worth.  You were happy with the transaction at the time.

I tried to find out what NA0 means (the A) but so far, nobody seems to know, at least not at the dealership.

A guy I know said that Porsche might use NA for petrol operated cars and ND (or N and a different letter) for EVs in the future. Don't know if true.

Smiley This is called CI and sucks big time. Smiley This basically forced my former Porsche dealer to close down and switch to Maserati and Aston Martin instead because the CI basically demanded a new construction in a new location for millions, a price my former dealer wasn't prepared to pay.

I always liked the individuality of each dealership but CI is like cancer, it spreads without control and any purpose, it is like a disease within the car industry nowadays.

People who want expensive cars are usually individualists who don't hate anything more than conformity and...CI.

I don't have a clue why car manufacturers don't get that. Smiley
