    1983 911 Targa SC

found the right car…..actually it belongs to a very long-time friend but was originally looking for an older car.

this is a 1983 Targa SC with only 2 original onwers and 123k Kilometers on the clock….

    Re: 1983 911 Targa SC

Targa has been picked up.....it has 2 previous owners and was garage kept from both owners and only driven on occasion....

we had an appraisal done and it was given a 2+  …… which I believe to be pretty good for an original unrestored car.

I have not yet decided if to turn it into a rally car for easier events of open top driving or if to enhance it for street driving and the occasional short event. but I do believe it is a keeper.

Same dilemma with every older cars that still is in good conditions . We can’t have it all !

I am looking for a Carrera 3.0 to replace my 964. I can’t get to transform that car into what I want . Hopefully I ll be with the a 3.0

    Re: 1983 911 Targa SC

    Congratulations Smiley

I owned a Grand Prix white 911 3.0 SC coupe (also without rear wing or front spoiler)   for 5 years as a classic car and I enjoyed it immensely. It was very easy to do 200+km/h and it felt secure even in pouring rain. Only complaint was the easily locking front wheels under braking especially on wet patches. I also remember that I had to keep the front heavy with full fuel tank and/or other ballast for high speed stability. It was amazing how easy it was then, some 20 years after production,  to find all the original parts from Porsche.

I remember that a visiting Porsche Stuttgart service guy asked me to drive it and he came back with a huge smile.

I sold it in 2001, a year after I bought a 986 Boxster S. It fetched good money at the time and it is currently cherished by a new owner.

    Re: 1983 911 Targa SC

A Carrera Targa 3.0 just poped up on my Auscout alert . White , very good condition . 93 k km , CHF 119k

I am not looking for a Targa ( only Coupe for me )  and I am surprised at the asking price , but only 479 Targa were made , so that explains it .

    Re: 1983 911 Targa SC

Avoid a coupe with sunroof. The sunroof is tiny but it helps ventilation if there is no a/c installed. But it gives a lot of trouble to keep it working and closing correctly after each opening.

    Re: 1983 911 Targa SC

    Very nice car! Smiley

Have you driven it yourself already? If so, what’s your verdict? Still don’t understand what’s your plan, initially you bought it to have it converted into a rally car, right?

    Re: 1983 911 Targa SC

ferdie, not driven yet....its at my mechanic and he says car is good.....was a bit neglected by previous owner and just sitting in the garage but some work and will be top notch...

the coupe is now a full-on classic car rally car.....I will turn the targa into a good long distance cruiser and and some parts to make it rally worthy for easy events....that would be a removable rollbar, engine work, underbody protection....good seats and make it electrically stout.

    Re: 1983 911 Targa SC

took delivery of my Targa and drove it from Berlin to Düsseldorf.....really enjoyed the drive.

car is healthy.....but come winter time will go to Tuthill and be turned into a nice cruiser and for looks.

    Re: 1983 911 Targa SC

    targa dropped off at early911s.

car will be built up from the bottom up.

it will all remain original but every single hose and bolt will be replaced with a new one.

first phase is suspension brakes and underbody to be followed by electrical then mechanical (engine, gearbox full rebuilds) and then the finishing touches in the looks dept.

first phase will be completed after a month after which I will drive it for 2 weeks and the goes back for the rest.

whether or not I will drive it lima to cape horn is still an open question.

it will definitely not be turned into a rally car and will remain truly vintage.....but might be reinforced for a rally with parts that can be removed after.

that will be discussed and decided by the owner of early911s and myself

    Re: 1983 911 Targa SC

work on the targa started at early911s.

Manfred Hering is guiding me on the project himself.
