Is it worth re-importing a GT3 from the US to Germany or UK?

Has anyone looked into this? Does it make sense? What are nearley new ones trading for in the US?

Based on casual observations, GT3's trade at roughly near/few $K below MSRP for new cars. Have seen a few brokers sell used Gallardos out of US into London, thereby avoiding depreciation hit as G mkt is soft in US. Sounds like interesting arbitrage trades may be possible...check w/a savvy broker who's successfully played the G trade for advice on whether this trick may work for GT3....

Re: Is it worth re-importing a GT3 from the US to Germany or UK?

not worth it in my opinion

Re: Is it worth re-importing a GT3 from the US to Germany or

It might be worth it, it might not. As with any arbitrage trade, you need to check the comparable pricing and exchange rates as well as the shipping/regulatory costs. Doubt Germany would make sense. UK, possible but your transaction costs would be very high.

I can only speak for Germany and haven't experienced it by myself but as soon as you import a car from the U.S. you have to pay and look for shipping, transport insurance, several bureaucratic documents and usually different headlights, at least on older cars. There are several companies around here organising things like this for you.

I would only consider this if I get a very reasonable price, which strongly depends on the model. If the GT3 is worth a thought, is not sure to me. How much is it selling at right now?

The 997 model is considerably cheaper in the US, especially if you consider the current exchange rate between Euro and Dollar!

Well you should take into account the 10% import duty and VAT when importing from outside EU too on new and used cars. So is getting a new 997 from the US still cheaper then; I highly doubt.. You do see US/Canadian Cayenne's being offered on mobile.de
Futhermore the USDollar will most likely drop further against the euro coming months making things look even more attractive..... So it remains an interesting but tough question requiring expertise and depending very much on which model you're looking for.

Re: Is it worth re-importing a GT3 from the US to Germany or UK?

You can get significant discounts on both new and used MKII GT3's (up to 15%) in Germany nowadays. Compare this to shipping costs, risks and effort you would have re-importing from the US.

Maybe. It all depends on taxes. If you can get some sort of relocation exemption to the normal import duties then I think it can be worthwhile.

If you are looking for RHD then I think your options are much more limited. It is impossible to get a car optioned for RHD in North America. I'm not sure whether a car could be bought in Hongkong and exported without registration there at a cheaper price than you can get in the U.K. Maybe. The Hongkong importer gets a very large allotment.
