    Re: P15/Senna -- Yuck

Bit absurd that ther clutch overheats, no? Extreme driving style he has, impressive to watch.

I agree both on the comment about the clutch overheating and Nico's driving!

    Re: P15/Senna -- Yuck

Weird that he does't uses the whole circuit.

No matter how bad Nico is compared with Hamilton, he is still a F1 driver, he has to have great car control skills.

As for the clutch overheating. It's a quirk of McLaren's traction control setup.

They uses the brakes to do TC duties with a open diff. They don't cut engine power. Good that way as the engine won't drop off boost, but something has to give with engine making full power but the tires are being slowed by the brakes. It's the gearbox, where the clutch that takes the abuse instead.

It looks like the Senna is another one of those 1 lap wonder cars, they hav one amazing lap per session, unless say a Porsche GT car where it just keep going and going.

    Re: P15/Senna -- Yuck

Nick, how does Porsche do it ? I thought they also use the backbrakes for turn in ? (hence the same size as front?)

    Re: P15/Senna -- Yuck

What you talked about is the PTV, Porsche torque vectoring. It brakes the side rear wheel to drag the car to turn.

But that's for turn in, when the engine is off throttle and not making torque.

On exits, Porsche has a actual limited slip differential, right there there is less work for the brakes already, plus the ECU do cut engine power for traction control.

As for the reason the rear brakes are bigger on 911s, it's because the engine is out back and the rear wheels can do a lot more braking duties.

    Re: P15/Senna -- Yuck

Whoa, way more entertaining than watching an F1 lap these days.  Nick, as to why he didn't use more of the track (in his final timed lap), my sense is that there are a lot of compromise corners / steady state sweepers where it may not be necessary.

Porsche stability systems are pretty unobtrusive in the GT models too.  So if your rear brakes are being overused, it's because of over-relying on the system.
