That's what kills it indeed, the same distance with our D3 leaves you with this:

Fun upgrade to the C63, fitted an OS-Giken LSD. Much more grip, and when it lets go it slides so controllably, a real joy.

Funny enough I never realized the C63 didn’t come with a LSD from the factory, that had been my assumption so far. Great modification and I believe it fits the character of the car perfectly. What made you go for OS Giken instead of Drexler for example?

They do, but as an option. Mine wasn't specced with one from the factory, and even if it was the factory ones are quite mild. Indeed this car without an LSD is just ridiculous in my book.

I have a Drexler on the D3 Alpina, and very happy with that one indeed. The OS Giken was recommended by a friend who had it fitted to his M140i and they manufacture one specifically for the C63 so thought to give them a try. Looks really nicely made too.

    Re: Bought a muscle car...

Put the C63 on the rolling road to see what it still had in it after 100k km. 481hp vs. 487hp claimed, not bad. They reshuffled a little to liberate a bit more, now 511hp and 650Nm.

It has a lot more to give as the Performance Pack has the SLS internals but intake and exhaust would need to be opened up for that. Will keep it subtle for now.

    Re: Bought a muscle car...

Amazing engine. But the matter, in fact, it has not the SLS parts, it is the other way round - The SLS M159 engine uses a lot of the M156 engine of your car.

The M159 has lots of aluminum instead of steel parts Shafts, crankcase, etc. The Intake System is made of Magnesium. But the biggest difference of SLS engine is its dry sump lubrication. BTW - the SLS/GT/Black-Series engines are mostly the same, but the ECU is different. Many of the SLS owners I know have the GT upgrade, some even the Black-Series (as I do).

The most amazing fact of this engine - every Mercedes Benz line-production engine is built to last at least 300.000km. And this is also true for all AMG engines (except the Project One or race series engines).

I think the Mercedes/AMG big block 8 Cylinders are the most amazing sounding engines out there. The new 4.0 Liter Bi-Turbos might be comparable powerful, but nothing beats the muscle car feel of these engines!

    Re: Bought a muscle car...

Yep, I kind of miss my C63 S PP Coupe...that n/a V8 engine sounded amazing.

However, you should hear my wife's new C63 S AMG Cabriolet Facelift: I am amazed how good it sounds, the deeper sound (very likely because of that particulate filter) gave the car a more distinct V8 muscle car sound and it is really loud, especially if you stand next to the car. My wife switched the sport exhaust on by accident yesterday when she left home and half the neighborhood was at the windows, looking angry, you get the point. I was like "wow" is this thing loud and the car has 1500 km only. Same goes to the E63, this thing is insanely loud on the outside (for a turbo charged engine), didn't expect that.

AMG is really a great brand, they know what the customers want. I just wish they wouldn't have done that stupid looking "fake" exhaust pipes look/design, it looks horrible, on both the C63 and the E63. Much nicer on Porker's car.

Agree the recent trend of fake exhausts is horrible, I can only imagine they do it to cut production costs? Their oval quad-exhaust design was perfect the way it was.

Smiley You cannot even imagine how bad the new fake exhaust look is live, I have to endure it every single day. Smiley

Highly embarrassing for a company like AMG because the sound of the Biturbos is still amazing (for a turbo charged engine).

    Re: Bought a muscle car...

Fully agree on the general fake exhaust tips . They all do it . Makes no sense and is not even esthetic. Even Porsche on the 992 made it wrong , you can see the real exhaust behind the tips surprise

Fully agree - had the fake tips on my C63s also and hated it. Merc and others claim that exhaust like yours tend to bend&move because of the heat and then are no longer properly aligned with the rest of the car. I never had a problem in any of my cars and tend to think that some designers had to many espressos.

    Re: Bought a muscle car...

I heard the reason is that any impact on the rear of the car, even a relatively moderate one, can damage the mufflers, manifold and even turbos it the tips that are sticking out of the bumper are physically connected to the exhaust system, because the tips would bear part of the impact are as the bumper will not protect them, and because they are physically connected would transmit the forces up the exhaust system chain. But if the tips are rather embedded in the bumper itself and not physically connected to the muffler exhaust tips then there is less change of this damage and expensive repair costs since the bumper stands in the way before the real exhaust tips are hit.

    Re: Bought a muscle car...

That makes sense. However in that case you (or some insurance) would have to pay for the damage whereas the bending due to heat problems is likely a warranty thing. This is what I've been told. Don't know if it is correct; maybe a mix of both

    Re: Bought a muscle car...

They gave the car some decent stoppers while it was in as well. All fit for the next 100k.

This actually happened to me many years ago, I got rear ended but there was little apparent damage. A few weeks later I am driving through Germany on the Autobahn and the exhaust starts getting really noisy I make it to the Munich Porsche centre who kindly take a look for me and it turns out the rear muffler had a large crack in it which was caused by the rear impact on the tip, it needed a new muffler which they managed to supply and fit that afternoon.

    Re: Bought a muscle car...

Since I can't really think of a better daily driver for my current needs, I plan to keep my C63 for a while so I treated it to some decent maintenance. Four new discs, new filters all-round, new rubbers where needed (suspension and diff), and since the foglights always broke from stone chips on the autobahn, I had them replaced with brake ducts, ends up looking better too. On to the next 120k km! kiss
