Yep the caliper.
It's only an 8mm difference (with either the Techo or Designs) and if I didn't know what I was looking for I wouldn't have picked it up either.

The brakes included in the Power Kit require (depending on which Porsche document you read) newly designed 20" wheels to clear the calipers. The spokes on the new Design or Techno wheels are 8mm 'thinner'.

I'm not aware of any statements from Porsche, beyond the Press Release, regarding the 19" wheels.

I think this is going to be something that people really have to watch out for. I've seen posts from folks that had to go with (7mm front) spacers to get even 20" Gemballa's to clear Brembo upgraded brakes.
It also depends on what you're looking for. Personally, I'd rather spend my money on other things. I know staying in the same size, a forged wheel/tire combo should be lighter, and that's better, but I'd rather dump that kind of money into 'parts' of the e81 kit and a spare set of winter wheels.
Also given the vibration gremlin lurking in the Cayenne, I'm going to stick with Porsche recommended wheels and tires to limit the finger pointing.

Why I ask? Because the Cayenne is very tire sensitive.
I can't go into details but in certain driving situations, the car can become unstable if non-Porsche approved tires and wheels are used. I hope you're prepared for that.
And a little hint regarding the brake calipers, some Mercedes AMG drivers had to learn it the hard way: rims usually react to heat and cold. At extreme heat, they can "expand", so even if there is a small gap between the wheel and the caliper, it can get pretty bad. The calipers also can "expand" a little bit due to excessive heat.
I'm sorry I don't know English to well to explain it and I'm not an engineer but just take it as a very simplified explenation. Did your wheel manufacturer ever test his wheels and tires under extreme conditions for the Cayenne S? I highly doubt it.
Another hint: Walter Röhrl just mentioned that one of the most difficult things during Carrera GT development was the tires. They had to develop tires with two different tread mixtures (on the same tire!) to provide an acceptable driving behaviour for beginners or better said "normal" CGT customers.
Porsche is very "anal" about tire development, I'd even say that there isn't another car company worldwide who invests so much time and work in tire development for single models.
I always try to explain to people that N-certified tires are VERY important, unless they professionally track race their car and know how to handle risky moments.
N-certified tires are NOT the same tires without N-certification, even if it is the same brand, type, size or even speed index. Also: ALL Cayenne tires are Extra Load tires due to safety. Are your tires XL tires?
Brad is right when he chooses to stay with Porsche recommended wheels and tire combos.
You're still young, DEETZ and I understand that looks is more important to you than anything else but I hope your Cayenne won't look like this sooner or later.

I appreciate everything you've told me. My car won't look as crazy as that though. I don't drive my car that hard either, where can I go fast in Boston? I am putting the stock wheels with snow tires as sooon as the snow is coming

GM Austin posted this a while ago, here are the NEW rims required for the powerkit upgrade. My question to you all is, now that i have the porsche spacers for my rear tires do i still have to upgrade my rear rims to accomidate the bigger brake calipers included in the powerkit?

I was wondering the same thing about the rears and the brake kit the other day. My wonder dropped a bit when RC posted the note about the 10x20 wheels that Porsche is offering for '05. Being able to get 10x20 wheels for the rear made it less of a concern on top of the fact that the newer front wheels are required either way.
The Tequipment wheel table that I've seen lists the part number for a "Set of four" wheels with tires. That's a different part number than the individual part number(s) on the wheel that GM listed from the TSB.

thanks alot for your info. can you give me more info on what you said about the 20x10, i currently have the Sport Design rims, i would love to get wider rears with my already installed spacers and probably get the new rims for the front in prep for the powerkit if i save enough money for it

Don't know if I have too much more to add.
The US MY'05 order guide shows a CY3 option. It only lists 9 x 20 Sport Design wheels. The 'technical' details on the CY3 Sport Techno wheels it lists are:
20" Sport Techno Wheel
Front: 9 X 20 275/40 R 20
Rear: 10 X 20 275/40 R 20
m030 listed the 10J Sport Techno offsets in another thread:
F : 9J x 20 ET60
R : 10J x 20 ET55

Yes, 19" or bigger to fit over the new calipers, but there is a front-to-back clearance problem also. Both Porsche 20" wheels available for the Cayenne have new versions with 8 mm additional clearance on the inside of the spokes to accomodate the new brakes.
Bancu is curious, as am I, if the existing 19" wheels will work or if, like the 20", we will need special versions for the powerkit brakes.
If anyone is interested in this retrofit, I think you should hold off until we see if Porsche has any other solutions for the clearance problem. Don't buy any new wheels yet.

Thanks m030 but GM hit my concerns on the nose.
I totally agree about holding off on buying new wheels and I am very glad I stuck with 18s for summer and winter out of the gate. I think the 18s are going to be much less of a hassle to get rid of _if_ I move to the new brakes.
I feel for the folks that bought the 20" wheels. Not only did they get nailed with the version change but Porsche is also offering a new Sport Techno package set up that RC and m030 noted (F : 9J x 20 ET60; R : 10J x 20 ET55). Even if some of those early adopters need the new version of the wheels to clear the bigger brakes, I would be interested the wider version of the wheels for the rear.
The recent offering of 19" winter tires and the Powerkit brakes peaked my interest in the 19s.
Since I had the individual part numbers for the 20" wheels, I've been asking a few folks that were selling 20" Sport Techno and Design if their wheels are the old or new versions. Let's just say that the responses have been less than forth coming.

Either they have no clue what you're talking about or they have powerkit plans and have just been caught trying to unload the older wheels!
