This is exactly the problem why paying a premium over the MSRP isn't the best idea...
He paid 500k USD over list, insurance will never get him that money back (I think, unless the contract says otherwise).
No matter the reason for the fire (apparently there was no crash or foul play involved): McLaren should provide an extra car for him (not talking about a gift here, unless it was a technical failure). It would be good publicity for them and this time, maybe, they could even invite him to the UK. 😉

It's mainly the unnecessary foul language .
Probably part of his internet "personality"...I hope.
The Shmee for grown-ups if you wish or maybe he is really this way but I hope not.
I can see however why McLaren has "issues" supporting him.

It is the norm to have an Agreed Value insurance policy in the US for exotic or vintage cars.
You get paid the exact amount that you think the car is worth (with documentation) in case of total loss (less deductible). This value is established when paying for the policy. I have this on my GT3 and nobody would pay $500k over sticker without doing the same (and it would be required by the bank if not paying cash).

Yet they roll the red carpet for a guy like schmee ... Foul language or not, at least Salomondrin is a real car guy and not a poseur
Shmee is family friendy...PG-13. My own family doesn't like him though, my kids find him disgusting. 😧 I like his videos because they are often well made and informative but they are also very boring, some would say soul-less and when Shmee starts talking with those selfie style close-ups, well... 🤢
Are there car YouTubers I like? Well, Chris Harris was great, lost a bit of his edge though. I also liked Vehicle Virgins in the beginning but not anymore. Salomondrin is funny and he certainly doesn't take everything too seriously but there is too much other talk involved, not much car related, so... I usually pick the videos as they become available but I don't have a favorite car YouTuber. Oh wait, Heather Ballentine is great when it comes to Lambo content but I had to get used to her. Best Huracan "training" video comes from her.

My goodness, at first I read „Shmee is a family friend“.
Had to read the sentence several times to get the proper meaning...

Mr jww is one of the better ones but also a narcissist....
i hope the truth will be told on the senna case - this could go from declining due to lack of run-in period (just guessing) to full replacement sueing each other creating views/money Getting his over sticker cost back..... - surely not good for mclaren...

Salomondrin had his Senna at a third party workshop (not sure why...tinting the windows, whatever but some kind of repair shop) before the fire, maybe they messed up with the wiring or whatever? Just a wild guess though.
Another possibility would be a thrown away cigarette stub. Don't laugh, it is documented that such stubs caused at least two 911 fires.

They've caused even bigger fires, I recall the Mont Blanc tunnel fire was caused by a cigarette stub getting stuck in the airfilter of a lorry?

Wow, didn't know that. Sick.
I just hope, for Alejandro's sake, that they didn't mess up something with the wiring in that third party workshop (for the tinting?). I think they had to remove the door speakers or whatever, so this could have messed up something. I know how this sounds but I'd never trust third party shops with such a complex car, not even when it comes to "simple" stuff.
For example I didn't know that the Senna needs to be kept on a charger 24/7, otherwise the battery charging gets messed up and you have to remove the front end to get to the battery.

there is no break-in on Senna...it is ready to go straight to track once delivered... read that on manual. we have a bunch of cars here.

McLaren needs to investigate this fast and offer a clean and easy solution for Alejandro if it was their fault. If not, well...they should at least offer the possibility to get a new car at MSRP. I get it, McLaren may not be too fond of Salomondrin but this is about a car lover and a McLaren, so they should do the math. Good for publicity too if they do this right.

Mclaren already mentioned this car is numbered. no chance to get an extra one.
On top of that, as much as car lover he can be, he is also a serious car flipper...
other senna are wrecked...no replacement. move on it is just a car.

Exactly 2 918's bought and sold, never driven. Has nothing to do with being a petrolhead imo...

Depends on your standard of driving. The first one was driven a lot more than the 2nd one as the 2nd one was in the shop most of it's life under his ownership.
But after that 2nd car and his 911R, Porsche really doesn't like him much now.
Italo:Bear in mind that he flipped his GT2 RS as soon as it got delivered...knowing McLaren, they won't give him a new car
I didn't know he flips his cars... Bad. So car manufacturers certainly won't "help" him.

I didn't know either, I don't follow youtubers, not my crowd, but in that case I can see why McLaren won't sell him one or even help him now, and agree.

Gauss:They flip cars because according to them, that's what the audience is expecting from them.
I don't know...if they drive the cars for a couple of months and then sell them, I'm OK with it but driving them a couple of days (or not at all) and then flipping them...well...not so good.
Some YouTubers are difficult to watch though. Alejandro is OK in my opinion, even if his language is sometimes a bit out of line. He just delivers a show in my opinion.
I have my difficulties watching Shmee but also, to some extent, Archie Hamilton Racing and TGE TV.
I like Mr JWW, even 888MF (sometimes he is unintentionally funny but I'm OK with it) but overall, it is difficult to find a favorite YouTuber in the car segment.
Some YouTubers like DDE (Daily Driven Exotics) are not interesting at all for me, their content is not appealing (to me). Unfortunately there are too many like DDE... Dragtimes is sometimes interesting but the guy who runs the show is a bit weird but maybe this is just his way, I don't know. Loved his Porsche Tower (Florida) video though.
I like DoctaM3 for Huracan Performante content but his videos could be a bit "deeper" or if he wants to go the "show" route, a bit more entertaining. He also sometimes talks about too much about non-car related stuff.
Truth be told, I do not watch so many YouTube car videos anymore as I did in the past, simply because many of the content providers ("show hosts") are annoying in a way or another. Or their content is made for adolescents/kids and doesn't appeal at all to me.
