Advice needed on Specs for TTS

Urgent help needed. Apparently you can't get the XPA sports steering wheel with the Grey natural leather. The grey has the Turbo S embossed on seats etc. So my options are:

    1. Black leather with sports wheel.

    2. Grey leather with normal wheel.

How good is the 3-spoke sports wheel?

    all advice appreciated.

Re: Advice needed on Specs for TTS

Well, I didn't order that car so somebody should confirm my information but:

all 996 models have a 3-spoke steering wheel by now. It should be possible to get the leather-covered steering wheel, even in Nat. Leather?

Otherwise there has to be a different solution. One Exclusive example of a C4S with Nat. Grey Leather and the above mentioned:

Re: Advice needed on Specs for TTS

All steering wheels are the three spoke variety.

The XPA option code ($575) refers to making the steering wheel color match the interior color-otherwise, your steering wheel is black.

The CPZ option ($675) is the "fat" steering wheel option. Again, black is standard no matter what the interior color, unless you opt for 'XPA'

I have a confirmed order with natural brown with both options above, so it is possible.

And yes, it amounts to an $1250 steering wheel.

You may want to consider option XNS ($315)which is steering column in interior leather, otherwise I believe it is black plastic.

You can also specify the column control stalks in leather, if you want to carry the interior color right up to the dash uninterupted.

I also think that perferated leather surfaces are specific to the 'Natural' leather options only-see the '05 brochure for a picture of natural brown with the perferated seating and steering wheel surfaces.

    Regards,
    BD

Re: Advice needed on Specs for TTS

Natural Grey is basically Black anyway, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference unless under very careful scrutiny.

    (i sure was)

don't 'jump' on ordering XPA - thicker steering wheel,

a few people have had their cars delayed for 2-3 weeks due to this.

Anyways, good luck with the order jason!

i just finalized my order specs about 2 weeks ago, i will post the full specs later! i went CRAZY with the options.

mine should reach PLPROD anyday now and then its a week in production and 6 weeks on the boat! man, i can't wait.

PS. be careful when ordering options that are X(XX) that means they are exclsuive depeartment options, which are done in a separate facility.

these options may add time to your order.

best of luck to both of us!

    Tom

I ordered a CPZ thicker steering wheel on my 2004 996 TT cabriolet. It didn't seem to cause any extra delay.

I highly endorse the CPZ wheel. I'm tall and have slightly big hands and I find the CPZ option to be one of the best driving-feel additions I have yet to order on one of my many Porsches. The normal TT wheel feels like a hula-hoop after using a CPZ.

One of the Porsche execs in Atlanta with whom I am acquainted said that he would never order another personal car without the CPZ after having tried it.

The CPZ wheel reminds me of the "GT steering wheel" installed from the factory on my ex-IROC 911/RS.

Re: Advice needed on Specs for TTS

    not trying to argue, but:

wouldn't a thicker wheel (the CPZ thicker wheel option is just the normal wheel that has gone to the exclusive department building to have 2 more layers of leather stichced over it) theoretically reduce feel that is transmitted through the wheel?

i've never felt porsche's CPZ thicker wheel,

but Ive got an M3 and the wheel is so thick that it hurts to hold it for extended periods of time, im not going to compare the road feel through the wheel, because its a different car,

but i would think that the normal wheel should be fine unless one has hands that are so big that the normal wheel is uncomfortable to hold.

Re: Advice needed on Specs for TTS

ohhh , just called my dealer, my car has been assigned a production number which means i cannot change it anymore, guess this is a mixed blessing (i wanted to add the Park assist option, and now cant, where as its good to know my car is moving along the order process).

in retrospect, park distance isnt that neccessary, and it also royally fugs up the normally smooth look of the turbo's SEKSI rear bumper.

anyone estimate how long it will take to get to me in NYC from this point?

Re: Advice needed on Specs for TTS

Thanks for all the help. Went with the Natural Grey.

On UK spec cars, all the leather is now perforated on seats - natural or otherwise according to the dealer. Decided I wanted the embossed Turbo S on the seats etc which only comes with the Natural leather. This also gives a perforated steering wheel leather. Will live with the non-leather covered airbag and went with the normal steering wheel (which here automatically comes in the interior colour).

Don't need a thicker steering wheel.

    Options now:

    Atlas Grey
    Natural Grey Leather

    Small Aluminium Pack
    Sports Shifter
    Heated Seats
    Drivers Lumbar
    PCM Phone module
    Park Assist

    November pickup from factory.

Still no clarity on the limited slip diff for the rear so can't order it.

Moogle: thought you made fun of my park assist for ruining the look of the rear!!!

    In a word, No.

Moogle, got my 04 TT 6 weeks ago with park assist. I wouldn't do it over again if I had the choice. You're not missing anything.

Re: Advice needed on Specs for TTS

Same thing regarding park assist. I can understand a cayenne owner ordering this option but the 996 is not a big car. I have it on mine and wish I didn't but my car was ordered by the dealer. The leather covered airbag is one option I don't want to miss. It really dresses up the interior.

Re: Advice needed on Specs for TTS

In the UK spec, the steering wheel is always in the interior colour I am told by the dealer. You can't have XPA with natural grey for some reason. Both their ordering system and the online ocnfigurator won't allow it. Oddly, you can get it with other natural leathers.

Also, it is only the steering wheel that is perforated under natural. Seats are always perforated now.

Re: Advice needed on Specs for TTS

jason i believe the handbrake is also perforated?

the effect is similar to the interior treatments on the " Special edition cars " the 40th anniv 911, and the 550 boxster.

check out those cars' steering wheels and handbrakes and other interior features, for how natural leather looks on a special edition model

    Thanks for the info guys

Re: Advice needed on Specs for TTS

Actually if you lower the car the park assist may be not such a bad idea...

Re: Advice needed on Specs for TTS

So, would you put GT3 wheels on a Turbo S? I note they are available in the US order guide.

Re: Advice needed on Specs for TTS

nopes, for me its the sport technos or the default TT hollowspokes.

i decided to keep the stock wheels and see how i like em, then mabye i will get new wheels in a month or two.

Re: Advice needed on Specs for TTS

I love the thicker wheel, especially at the track. Mine is a combination of carbon fiber and black leather.

Also, I really like the Champion RG5 wheels that came with the car - very light and look great with Lapis Blue.

    Just my $0.02
