    Carlos from Spain:

It would be interesting to overlay side views of 991 vs 992, which  would presumably show how much the shape, including rear height, has changed.

That was fast! Thanks Carlos; biggest thing I can see is 3-4cm less view out the rear window, based on second image.

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

The new one is wider in the rear, a fact that is emphasized by the horizontal light strip. Like others on this thread, I’m still getting used to the wide strip. I think I like it, but I’m not sure.

You guys here on Rennteam (not F****** Rennlist) realise that a red reflector/strip/illuminated or not connecting the tail lights has been a part of the nine eleven since 73 right?

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

Of course we do, but that doesn’t mean that each execution of it is instantly good looking. Some design choices are more aesthetically pleasing than others...

For me, I have found that cars -and those we admire even more so- are highly sensitive to the way they are photographed. You can be dumbstruck by a particularly odd detail on a photograph, which turns out to be a minor thing in real life. I myself, I like to stare at these images for longer times, trying to find the reasoning behind certain design details, etc. I might bitch about it, but when I see the cars in real life, I am mostly ik :-)

The stripe was introduced, on the 911,  with 1974 G models. No reflector stripe on previous F models. It was never illuminated prior to the 991 (4) and 992 . I personally don`t like  the illuminated stripe, brings back memory of the unilamp trend in the sixties on american cars, but that is not the main issue , the issue is that it reduces the 911 identity as the same unilamp  is  on the Cayenne Macan and Panamera. For me the best design feature of the 992 are the pronounced hips, this the 911 Dna.

At the end of October, I attended an event in the Chicago suburbs.  Returning back to downtown, I was behind a car with a very bright horizontal strip of light drawn across the entire rear of the car.  At first I didn’t recognize it.  As I got closer, I thought it could be a Panamera but the stripe was too wide.  Then I thought it was a 991/4 but something was still amiss.   Then I realized it could be a 992.   As I tried to take a closer look by pulling alongside, the driver braked and with relatively heavy traffic my opportunity was lost.

The point of my ramblings is that the 992 seems more ambiguous and anonymous at night with this new tail lamp signature.

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

CGX, aren't describing a process that is learned over time? Did it seem anonymous because we haven't had a chance to see and learn what the car's light signature is? Can you have instant recognition and novelty together?

Wonder what happens if either of those $5 electric fans fails?  I bet most owners will never even open the rear.  Do we have any pics of the spoiler open?

Is that any different that what is found on the 991?  One takes no issue with spoiler and it is better integrated while more effective than previous designs.

I think a ducktail would work with this design well - instead of „you have left your trunk open, buddy...“

Spoiler has two positions, except, in the States where the low drag position means the third brake lamp doesn’t meet DOT regulations for minimum height.

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

Porsche are starting to release official videos now. It's interesting that in most of them the rear spolier is not shown as deployed. In this video it is briefly shown extending at around a minute or so in but that's the only shot of it.

That speaks to the intended market.

    Absolutely agreed 100 per cent.

I expect that a "ducktail" spoiler will be a VERY popular option for many Porsche 992 models...

Quite the picayune for a couple of posts as bandwidth, last time one checked, is cheap.

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

Thanks for all the pictures. Yes I know these are the same fans as the 991 but I thought I asked back then as well. They look cheap but critical

The car looks broken with the rear spoiler up. Like it got hit from behind. Oh well. A lot of money for a sub three liter six banger but they will sell a lot of them. Can’t hurt my 997 values.
