Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

    The Carrera S dimensions:

    997: L 4.43m W 1.81m

    991: L 4.49 W 1.81

    992: L 4.52 W 1.85

Significantly there is no narrow body 992 version anymore.

The above overall width measurements don't account for the fact that the front of the 992 is also wider than previous models, which makes the car more bloated.

Based on these numbers we are talking about 1-2% increase in size... Honestly, nobody will be able to tell a difference, objectively speaking Smiley

It is the visual impact what provoques this perception.

My old turbo is still way too much fun to consider the change. Doubt it’s as fast but Porsche made an amazing product so congrats on a wonderful car. 12 years and 120k miles.

Wow ! I didn't realize that the differences are so small - anyway, I swapped my 997 to a 981 and not to a 991 because I felt the latter to be too big in size (interior)...thanks for sharing! Smiley

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

One should compare also the full width including mirrors and then the numbers are like this:

    997 :  W 1.93 m

    991:  W 1.98 m

    992:  w 2.02 m

Now those 10 cm in width when driving on an alpine road make quite a difference (992 vs 997) not to mention when parking.

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

Agree, the 911 is getting way too big since 991 . I have no interest in a Carrera 992 .

Unless there come those special lease deals on the "ordinary" models, usually pretty attractive but it may take a while. We had two 991.2 GTS (one GTS 4 Cab and one GTS  Cab) with those lease deals and these cars were really worth it.

If you follow worldwide sales of the 911 range the mainstay version has always been the Carrera (and since 997, the Carrera S followed by the Carrera).

The more expensive versions are in a minority globally. However, in some markets or affluent regions within markets the top versions may sell better but this doesn't change the overall picture. Given the elevated prices of the 992, I wouldn't be surprised if the entry 992 Carrera (385 HP) becomes the international best seller.

Well, I trust you followed all the brief reviews on the base Carrera so far - it seems / seemed to me that Porsche put some remarks like "the power of the base is enough, no need for an S" in the press info supplied as all those youtubers / mag testers had that remark in common. The 19"/20" wheels of the Carrera might also be preferable, because only in very few places I've been to in a number of countries  the roads are billiard table smooth.

The only omission from the base car option list is the rear wheel steering and I don't know how essential this might be on a Carrera.

C'mon...under 1k EUR per month without putting any money down for a 165k car? Smiley

Sometimes the lease factor is under 0.9, which is quite sensational for a Porsche.

My wife is planning to get a 992 Turbo S (cab or coupe, not sure yet) if the lease factor drops below 1.

Actually she wanted a 992 GT3 (since I have my Performante, she fell in love with big rear wings Smiley) but I doubt her financial advisor would approve it for her business (tax office may not be pleased) and even if he would, a GT3 will never be at a lease factor of 1 or less. Impossible.

I just checked my local dealers inventory. They have as many 992s in stock (49) as Macan. And they are all very similar in specs and colors. I have maybe seen 1 on the road. Is the 992 selling?

There really isn't any buzz about the car. After all these years, the 911(except the GT models) may have reached their limit in attracting younger middle aged buyers. Only the old timers seem to be interested. The base 911 may go the way of Cadillac. Smiley

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

Quite a few out and about in London. Seems though more like the regular guys and gals just rolling over leases versus a lot of new conquest customers. Issue though is Porsche may be losing the regulars to the GT’s and McLaren crowd. Has to be some data on this?

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

As far as USA is concerned the latest figures I've found are as follows:

    Porsche-December-416x312.jpg

The 911 is not doing badly given that most variants haven't been released yet.

All models except the Cayenne show a significant decrease..

I am not sure whether by "sales" Porsche mean cars to customers or to dealerships.

A friend's new Agate Grey 992S Cab.  I drove it with him on a beautiful winter day here--a stunning car.  BTW, he is not just a "regular guy" turning over his lease--he is the Chief Executive of the business he founded, and is an automobile enthusiast.

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

Thanks Reginos, facts are always better than personal anecdotes.  And even facts are complicated.  For example, Porsche USA monitors its overall sales very carefully, and allocates cars to its dealers to move out final year models (both new and pre-owned) before allocating new models such as the 992.  Specifically, the large premier dealer in my area has exactly four 992s in its inventory, with the first one going on the show floor in late December.

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

Ok good to hear. I got invited to a Porsche Silverstone day a few years back and had a base 991.2. It was lovely and all the car frankly anyone would ever need, my concern though consistent with some of the above comments, is whether the base models (base 992 and S) still attract a lot of new customers like they always used to. Still think a base 992 right now is about the best all-round pound for pound sports, weather independent and lifestyle car one can get. And my issue btw with my 993 4S is I only use it when conditions are perfect, with a net result of 120 miles last year (always seemed to be raining when I had the opportunity to consider using it) which is a bit sad... at least with a new one you don’t think twice about taking it out...

Macan sales in US were lower due to the late arrival of the refreshed Macan. We didn't see the 2019 Macan until June.
