Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

I really like most of the updates including the interior. But the gear shifter is beyond strange and it would have been much better to completely remove it and have buttons to switch between the different modes. Even worse though is the third brake light. What were they thinking? it (at least in pictures) destroys an otherwise great looking rear end.

Also noticed in the last pictures that the ugly bumperettes on US spec cars seems to have returned? For the 991 they got removed so very strange that they now are there again even though they are smaller than before.

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

What are the bumperettes on the rear bumper of the dolomite silver and gentian blue cars?

I really can’t get over the brake light misalignment btw. Back in the days, they always messed up the alognment of the front DRL clusters, which would inadvertently be fixed in the facelift... now they got that right, the front looks really harmoneous (on the risk of bland), but they messed up the rear with this eyesore...

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

    I like :

    - the wider fenders, giving very sexy curves to the front and back of the car Smiley

    - the well integrated rims

    - the top of the dashboard  , a good modern version of the older classic ones .Smiley

    I don't like , at all :

    - the center console  which looks out of place, ( better in a sedan ) , including the horrible cup holder

    - the  '' cut'' trough the whole back integrating the PORSCHE letters , no need for this except to tie the 911 to the Panamera  . I really can't get used to it Smiley

    Generally :

The car has become more luxurious and confortable . I feel it is aimed now at much older people then me . Or , I am just too young for this kind of  car ?  smiley  Getting closer to an SLS .

At the same time, it looks more sporty then before from the sides and from above .

Porsche must know their market . Around me , I have 5 neighbors with 911's . Not one has ever had any interest to attend a track day  . Would not even consider it . They drive to work in suburban areas, and never drive faster then 120 km/h . Some of them do not even know what engine they have . I understand very well that these custumers want more confort and safety  and are only interested in the 911' s  shape and the image it has .  Obviously Porsche is aiming at them .

To your comment and that of Joost above: is there a mandated EU height above ground, that such brake lights must be installed at?  If so, that could explain why it needed to be higher than the engine slats...Smiley

Agree with your overall assessment. Maybe in the Pro department one could add the enhanced choice of paint colours and interior trims. When I spotted the first spyhots of the center console I said to myself: don't worry - this will be just some pre-production cheap camo. Obviously I was wrong Smiley Actually I wonder whether this time they offer some special interior design for the GT cars - I have a hard time to see bucket seats in this kind of "elegant" interior. Also the GT PDK crowd will be not amused with the BRAUN thingy - maybe unless they'll offer Paddles not mounted to the steering column for the GT cars Smiley On another note: Paulo asked in the other thread about the different functionalities of the switches ("mini-BRAUNS") above the center console: I guess dependent on the options you choose you have max. 2 switches for individual configuration - maybe after all you don't have to crawl through the touchscreen menu in order to activate the PSE ?

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

The buttons, the shaver and the vents look cheap. The dash lines are unappealing, and light color interior look like a mess. But it doesn’t matter, they know their target audience perfectly (ie the “sporty sedan is not sexy enough” crowd) and these will sell like hot cakes despite the higher price because there isn’t much competition.

Personally I would much rather have an Alfa 4C for fun and good weather and a sporty crossover for daily and practicality for about the same price as a well optioned 992. Depreciation on these car will be the worst on any 911, as expected.

They will be making newly designed LWB's I think for the 992.  Will be interesting to see what they do...

    Hello everyone!

Any thoughts on launch cars having SPASM option? I have placed an order but can’t decide on PASM vs SPASM. Guards Red with full leather Black/Mojave Beige, Black PSE, RWS, 4-way Sport seats plus, RS Spyder wheels, GT wheel

    Regards from Poland!

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

I think SPASM if you have smooth roads and/or you like to drive on a race track.  For less than perfect streets, probably good to stick with Standard PASM (especially since 21” wheels now)

Thanks!  I remember that one year Porsche displayed the new Macan in a window at Harrods.

I’m currently near Stuttgart. Saw my first 992 in the wild (in the dark mail). It sounded rather low-pitched & raspy, at 70 kph.

"Dr. Walliser said that Andreas Preuninger and Porsche Motorsport are ramping up work on a new GT3, too. And, thankfully, it should keep the 991.2 GT3's amazing 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six. Undoubtedly a GT3 RS and possibly a GT2 of some sort will follow, though Walliser said there won't be another 911 R."

Of course, the 911R was just a beta car for testing stuff for the GT3, mainly the manual transmission.
