    Just want to make sure I understand the comparison. Bluelines compared a 991.2 4 GTS against a 992 4S. Can anyone compare a 992 4S against a 991.2 4S?

    Yes, 450hp against 450hp Smiley

And if memory serves me right only one second faster in the Ring, so not that much faster either.

    Carlos from Spain:
    bluelines:

On the 992 Carrera S and 4S PASM is standard. Sport PASM (-10mm) is optional. There does not seem to be a -20mm option anymore.

I think the confusion is to which the -10mm is reference to but still three suspensions,
    (1) standard suspension (non PASM) on the base Carrera,
    (2) the PASM which is -10mm vs standard (though PASM is standard on the CarreraS), and
    (3) the S-PASM which is the -20mm vs the standard, but only -10mm vs Carrera S.

So when talking about the Carrera S, the S-SPAM is -10mm lower, but in reality it is what was always know as the the -20mm, because the reference is the standard suspension (-0mm). Just like the 996 the -10mm was the M030 and the -20mm was the X74.

Good point. This could be the case Smiley

Bluelines, a bit more regarding your comparison between the 991.2 4GTS and the 992 4S.  I am not disputing your impressions (steering and engine response, plastic paddles, etc.) and I think you have overall been quite fair and informative.  But I think it is also pertinent to consider that:

    1.  991.2 base cost (at least in USA) is $127K versus the 992 S cost of $120K.

    2.  991.2 HP is 450, versus 992 of 443 HP.

    3.  991.2 torque is 405 lb-ft, 992 is 390 lb-ft.

    4.  At least on paper with sport chrono, 991.2 is 3.4 to 60 mph, 992 is 3.2.

I am also not saying that a move up to the 992 is "worth it".  That decision is always a personal one.  The real decision will probably come when the new 992 GTS comes out.  wink

I think you are mixing up BHP with HP for the 992. It has 443 BHP and 450 HP. Identical to the 991.2 GTS.

You are right with the torque 530 Nm in the 992 vs 550 Nm in the 991.2 GTS.

To me there is a larger difference in driving experience between the 991.1 and 991.2 than between the 991.2 and the 992.

My decision will likely depend on the next GT4 or GT3 Touring Smiley

Not that it really matters, but the Porsche USA website uses HP for both.

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

To clarify above, Porsche USA lists the 991.2 4 GTS at 450 hp, and the 992 Carrera 4S at 443 hp.  And BTW, I’m holding out hopes for the GT3 Touring as well. 👍

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

First 992 Carrera 4S review by Auto, Motor und Sport in Germany.

    0-100 kph in 3.3 seconds

    0-160 kph in 7.8 seconds

    0-200 kph in 12.3 seconds

They liked a lot of things about the car but turbo lag has increased(!) and the exhaust/engine sound is a bit muted.

Also not on the positive side: The weight of the car was 83(!) kg over the weight of a similarly equipped 991.2 Carrera 4S. Ouch. Also, it is not easy to overlook the car in the rear when in the driver's seat, you can barely see anything because of the low seating position. They also claim that the car doesn't feel light or small, so the already discussed "massiveness" of the 992 is present. Some could say it is a solid feel, others could blame the extra 83 kg of weight for it. angry

In conclusion, the reviewers said that the car is still a real 911 but the review felt as neutral as the car's apparently neutral driving behavior, if you get my drift. They also mentioned that the 911 has advanced more to a GT, so this may be the reason for it.

I’m probably in the minority here, and will offend many members but I’m not that sad about the muted sound. Never cared that much for decibels, as long as the sound has quality. Something the 922 seems to have, even with the turbo sound...

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

Well, it is precisely the quality that is muted by the turbos in the 3.0L, not the decibels, the decibels can be created on a Turbo by  less restrictive mufflers, but the quality, that is lost, no matter how loud they are.

I spent sometime with a 992 yesterday at Leipzig.

Didn't you find the interior to be made from rather cheap materials? Smiley

First thing that struck me when I sat in the 992 for the first time was the really cheap feel of the plastic covers and the buttons which seem to be made from solid aluminium but are just low-cost plastic that mimic metal switches. Though all parts, including the new screens do look good, the feel of the surface just didn't do it for me. Smiley

It's not. In person I love the new rear. The horizontal bar with the Porsche letters together with the 3D tail lights gives it a very modern feel.

But the whole car looks bulky, I really want to use the word fat. I know dimension wise it's not much bigger than a 991, I felt like it went from a size 4 to a size 8.

As for the front, well, let's just leave it at that

The cheapest bit I feel is the center console touch panels. And I felt like they took leftover lambo switches and recycle them to be used on the 992. The detail around the center techrometer is super nice to look at. The new horizontal design dash is also nice. But really, they could do well with putting proper buttons on the center console instead of the 918 style touch panels. Those look outdated already.

Haven’t spent enough time in the 992 interior to comment. But I like the wide rear and front. Maybe it’s because I just saw the RSRs race at Sebring. And damn, if you guys are sound enthusiasts, you got to hear an RSR screaming by at 165 miles an hour. Talk about music!

The 992 I tried had no touch buttons in the centre console (like the Pana), it’s just a black shiny plastic piece around the gear lever (shaver)...Smiley

E2E0DD9F-96FA-4C23-936C-928775D239C1.jpegI have had my 992 for a couple of weeks. I like it. C2S, sports chassis, but no rear steering nor active anti roll. Only 500kms or so but the early signs are good. I had spent some time in a 991.1 and a 991.2 with all the chassis options and liked the 991.2 quite a lot-I was tempted but decided to wait for the 992. Apart from the interior tech which I quite like, the biggest difference for me is the front end turn in grip and the basic chassis stability. Of course with the decent torque you can play but the other thing I have noticed is that you can really use the weight transfer to rotate the car as you come off the throttle, and that’s something I have the feeling was less noticeable in the 991.2 with 4ws that I drove last year. Anyway, quality seems to be up, the tech is more towards BMW now and the driving experience seems to be as I would like and expect from a 911, sharper, quicker, and for my money the best I have experienced in recent 911‘s, at least with my spec. The Goodyear tyres seem ok so far at least in the dry.

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

I've had my 992 S a couple of weeks now and agree with your comments. Mine has PASM and RAS. Steering feel is excellent and it corners so flat with amazing front end grip. Engine seems to rev are freely than my old 991.2 GTS
