    Porsche Motorsport 2009 Announcement?

    Anyone know when Porsche will announce what there plans for 2009 will be? I am dying to hear and have heard strong rumors that Porsche might be one of the new engines supplier for IRL, and may well develope a car as well. Could we please have a Porsche motorsports forum!

    Strong rumors coming through the press that Porsche will drop factory development support for RS Spyder. Looks like Penske will not participate in AMLS next year. Penske, also denied they are in discussion with Toyota to develop a LMP1 car.

    They need all that resources to buy more of VW next year .

    Latest rumors point to Penske leaving ALMS for 2009 to race a Porsche powered DP in Grand Am whilst he awaits for a new Hybrid LMP1 Porsche to come out of Weissach in 2010.
    Penske will keep the current team together (crew, and engineers) in GA and focus on the development of the new LMP1.

    Spyeridol thanks for the update.. Penske did announce they are running two cars in DP seeries beginning in January. Hope they do come back in 2010...I do not live too far from Dyson Racing's Shop so at least we will have them in LMP2 next year..Wouldn't be surprised to see Rob Dyson's team get a Porsche works driver for 2009.

    bobr -I'm not sure that Dyson will continue with Porsche for 2009.
    There are many rumors suggesting that they are looking to run the Lola Coupe for 2009

    Spyderidol I live very close to Dyson's shop aand had the opportunity to visit the shop early this year as they were preparing the cars for Sebring. They are very high on Porsche Syders..Guys said the RS Spyders are the best cars they have ever raced...I suspect and hope that Porsche will provide support for the Dyson team similiar to what Acura is doing for their LMP2 teams.

    The problem is that the rumors suggest that they (Dyson) are not very pleased with the kind of support that Porsche gave them during the year.
    Anyway, I hope that you're right.

    That happened last year with the GT2 program, public claims of poor support from Porsche... Teams defected to the Ferrari GT2 program (e.g. Tafel), thinking it the grass might be greener. While the F430 dominated GT2 in 2007, that did not happen in 2008.

    I'd be very surprised if Dyson left Porsche for 2009, unless for some reason Porsche does not provide factory support for the RS Spyder program. Would be very interesting to see some drivers like Patrick Long driving for Dyson in 2009.

    Who did a clean sweep of all ALMS GT2 titles (drivers, team. manufacturer) this year?

    Word is that it's almost 100% certain that they will not be racing the Spyders in 2009.
    They will be entering two Lola Coupes

    The reports in the press about Rob Dyson's vist to Lola were around discussion about an LMP1 car not the coupe. Also, viewed visit as a ploy to get more support from Porsche next season.

    OK guys, the latest rumors are very promising:

    As we know by now ,Penske is staying with Porsche and is being "dropped" into a development role for 2009 and 2010. they will run a Porsche powered DP in the 24H Daytona.

    Now for the really good stuff: There is a possibility that Penske will re-appear at Laguna with a LMP1 chassis as early as 2009! (apparently the tub of the current Spyder can become the basis for the LMP1 car).

    As for Dyson: They have an offer from Mazda to run the new Lola coupe with an AER engine next season, however, given the choice of a low-budget deal from Mazda or an engine deal from Porsche, It looks likely that they will accpet the Porsche deal.
    Dyson's role will be to continue to keep developing Porsche's newborn direct injection engine on the track in 2009.

    Lets hope that this all pans out in just this way.

    Spyderidol..Thanks for the update.. I for one would certainly like to see Dyson continue with Porsche. However, I do think Porsche needs to step up support for them including a factory works driver... Patrick Long would be a good choice.

    Strong rumors from motorsport.com that Harmut kristen said that they are going back to Le Mans in 2010, and that it will most likely be a LMP-1 Hybrid!, he said in the interview that Penske will be running the LMP1's and that the car will be able to win overall from now on!. There will be a meeting coming soon before the winter where Mr. kristen will get the OK to start a 4 year LMP1 program. This is one year early and the best news yet. I love Porsche motorsports!!!

    This is still not confirmed, so I advise caution!

    It looks good, but....

    Very strong rumors claiming 100% certainty that Dyson will not race Spyders in 2009
