Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

    SciFrog:

Went back to the design studio. After Federal rebate managed to build one for $128k, basically same price as the GLS63AMG but with probably better depreciation. Decision decision...

Not sure if the depreciation will be so much different.

I guess if we would have to test an Model X for 2 to 3 weeks (maybe throughout an vacation) you could get a clear idea if you really like it on a daily base.

If I think that I already hate filling up a car every week once, so what about that Testla. You have to plug it every single day. It annoys me on my cell phone that I have to care for the battery to survive throughout the day and now I would have to do it for the car, too?

Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

Well someone would plug it in for me smileyangry Anyhow it is as easy as closing the door when you leave the car, kind of a non issue. It is a small price to pay and much easier than finding a gas station, driving there, waiting for a free pump, going out in the freezing cold, touching the disgusting nozzle and filling the tank forever.

Something is a little strange about the X waiting list. Will look into it later on Tesla forums but my guess is the price despite not being a surprise since I priced an equivalent P90D S for less than $3k difference. Maybe people wanted the 75kw version more?

The X is smaller than the GLS but the back seats are close in use and confort and the X has more luggage space when all 7 seats are used (by itself the rear is bigger plus it has the front trunk). Tesla managed to rewrite the rule book in designing the S and X since they have no big engine and no fuel tank. Access to the third row in the X is the easiest of any SUV out there by far thanks to the gullwing doors and second row built on pedestals combined with a low floor.

Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

So they really only produce 6/7 seaters 90D models, they are on track to deliver 5k to 6k between Q1 and Q2. The reservation list is between 20k and 30k cars but many seem to be 5 seaters or 75kw model so basically if you want a 90D 6/7 seater you will get it in July (not June anymore since the latest news is they have slowed down the production line again). Of course they are delivering the highest margin models first, fair game. Musk tweeted last week they finally got the first X perfect straight out of the production line (took 6 months). The first 1.3k cars or so that came out before Q1 end had several issues that are now being fixed at the service centers. It is still unknown if they will be able to ramp up the production full blast for the deliveries before the end of the quarter. It will all depend on the progress made during the current line slowdown.

Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

There has been some criticism that Tesla uses its customers as "beta testers" a bit more than other automotive companies.  Is that a fair criticism?  Perhaps nature of the beast since their cars also involve more new technology than ICE cars.

Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

So far the customers have swallowed pretty well being beta testers, that might change with the model 3 however.

Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

Tesla offers now a special lease offer for the P70D in Germany:

30% of the car's value as initial payment, 5 years, 10000 km per year, around 500 EUR per month lease payment.

    19% VAT included!

Not so sure how good this offer is but it is a beginning... (Tesla S 70D starts at around 83000 EUR over here in Germany, incl. 19% VAT).

For comparison: A fully optioned P90D would be 940 EUR per month (30% of 157000 EUR new price tag as initial payment).

Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

What is the point of a lease when you put down 30% of the value of the car upfront? 5 year lease? Better off financing with zero down at 1.49% that Tesla now offers.

    SciFrog:

First, there is no car financing with 1.49% in Germany, usually the rates are around 3-7% (which is ridiculous in my opinion...) for luxury cars/sports cars. You could probably get a Toyota or Hyundai with 1.49% or 0.99% (saw an ad somewhere...). Also, it is very unlikely that you can finance the whole 150k (Tesla P90D) with financing, they would probably require 30-40k initial payment, depends on the financial company and the offer.

Most people don't have the credit rating we have (hopefully Smiley), so it isn't easy to get a car credit for those kind of sums.

I agree however, the Tesla lease offer isn't very good.

Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

The best deals from credit unions are apparently 1.49% for 7 years with close to 100% financing but maybe excluding taxes. Lease rate however seem to be at least 4% unless it is an incentive from a manufacturer. In case you didn't know if you finance through Tesla they guarantee the resale value to 50% for the base car and 42% of options at the 3 year mark. So far the model S have better resale value than that floor though but it might change once the model 3 is in production.

    10k km annual allowance?? Smiley

I would only buy a Tesla to drive for free (via superchargers) 50k km a  year or more!

Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

Funny but even tough we are thinking of getting a Tesla I plan to never use the super charger freebie. Charge at home, who has the money to buy a $100k car but want to waste 40 mins plus travel time at a supercharger station to save $10?

Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

As you know gas prices in Europe are higher than US prices. For example for 5000 km per month you need 400 euros for fuel for a typical sedan, more for 7 series, S class size car.

In Germany, driving a Tesla S is more of a luxury thing (maybe similar to the US?). Many owners have other (expensive) cars in their garage, like Porsches or others. A Tesla S is more of a statement, "look here, I'm green" or "look here, I'm a sucker for the latest car tech", whatever. Whoever spends over 150k EUR (P90D) for an electric car is certainly not your average car buyer. Even the less powerful models don't go for under 100k EUR (with some options) over the counter.

Some have criticized the weight of the Model X but it is 400lbs lighter than a GLS 63 AMG and the same as a GLE AMG and an original Cayenne turbo...

I don't think one can really understand how well the X was designed until you start using it. Since they had a blank sheet they were not afraid to go where others couldn't dare.

Oh yes that is ever true - they seem to have taken it right out of the Porsche playbook. But, the 3 will be different Elon said. The options list to tick your savings away will be a lot smaller in order to minimize complexities with assembly.

Not really. There are very few options on a Tesla and they are fairly cheap compared to Porsche. Have you actually ordered a Porsche? It is so complicated that you need a sales person to double check it.

Re: Tesla Model X Thread Closed

My wife has different tastes in cars compared to other women. She likes sports cars, most women love practical or "sweet" cars like the Mini or Fiat 500.

Her dream car is a Huracan (surprisingly, this is one of my dreamcars as well and I swear I have nothing to do with it...) and her favorite car is the 911 GTS Cab I have (one reason she wants to take over the lease...) but she also likes her Macan Turbo a lot (with the exception of the fuel consumption though).

Surprisingly, she also likes the new Mazda MX-5, so this has nothing to do with expensive or not.
