It seems that Ferrari's new philosophy which was outlined at it's 60th birthday celebration last year has passed everyone on here by. This outline plan has been revisited in this week's issue of Autocar magazine in the UK in their first drive feature on the California. Ferrari have said that future products will be split into two categories - one for "professional" (read 'enthusiast') drivers and the other for "non-professional" (read 'status driven') drivers. The new generation of professional cars are set to be smaller and lighter and will include the Enzo and F430 replacements. The non professional cars will centre on the range of front engined cars which will be made easier to drive and live with on a daily basis. This will include the California and 599 and 612 replacements though the latter cars are set to have a harder edge whilst also delivering day to day usability.

This sounds like a very reasonable strategy to me.
It was about time Ferrari offered daily-usable cars alongside the more hardcore ones. Not everybody is a racer or even a top expert driver!

Just heard of another two California deposits being cancelled here. Two more in a list that seems to be growing daily. I wonder how the order books really look as dealers seem genuinely sanguine about next year.

I was at my dealer today and they almost insisted I keep my name on the list. I indicated that was fine by me but my interest was in the 430 replacement.
