The reviewer gives it the thumbs up in spite of listing several negatives; not such thing as the perfect car though!

Unfortunately people in lesser cars are going to see this not very pretty backside most of the time

Re: Autocar - First test of the California

That's a nice hat so I'm sure he won't want to eat it I'm looking forward to getting mine next year and will have to make do with a Scuderia meantime

make do with a scuderia??? ill be happy to take it if you get tired of it !!

Re: Autocar - First test of the California

I am not sold on the design but it is a terrific engineering achievment.

    And it sounds glorious!

Re: Autocar - First test of the California

the back side is butt ugly... can't get used to it...

I agree. Its a frowning face with upside down smile...terrible

Re: Autocar - First test of the California

Im kinda not feeling the rear either but the front is so stunning. Side profile is cool too.

Re: Autocar - First test of the California

IM sure even the forthcoming Z4 is going to look better then this.

Re: Autocar - First test of the California

^And if it would be just as big as new California it would make a far more reasonable buy.
IMO BMW really needs a "bit bigger" Z4 to go against SL and "this"

Re: Autocar - First test of the California

It's absolutely digusting. Ferrari would have to pay me to drive it.

Re: Autocar - First test of the California

^its tragic, but this car has waiting lists

I guess that could change soon.

    True.

California is priced at F430 level. When I saw it I was supriesed for a moment...BUT, if California is replacing(price wise) F430 that is a sad thing for all true Ferrari fans.

    Times they are changing!
I would never imagine anyone would complain about the introduction of a new Ferrari!

However, for Ferrari to bring something like this in the market it means that they have done their research and found out that there is demand for it.

So, perhaps people's tastes are changing and we don't know about it!

Re: Autocar - First test of the California

It seems that Ferrari's new philosophy which was outlined at it's 60th birthday celebration last year has passed everyone on here by. This outline plan has been revisited in this week's issue of Autocar magazine in the UK in their first drive feature on the California. Ferrari have said that future products will be split into two categories - one for "professional" (read 'enthusiast') drivers and the other for "non-professional" (read 'status driven') drivers. The new generation of professional cars are set to be smaller and lighter and will include the Enzo and F430 replacements. The non professional cars will centre on the range of front engined cars which will be made easier to drive and live with on a daily basis. This will include the California and 599 and 612 replacements though the latter cars are set to have a harder edge whilst also delivering day to day usability.

This sounds like a very reasonable strategy to me.

It was about time Ferrari offered daily-usable cars alongside the more hardcore ones. Not everybody is a racer or even a top expert driver!

It's the same what I heard from my dealer, I have also written that here in rennteam. Interesting times ahead at Ferrari.

Just heard of another two California deposits being cancelled here. Two more in a list that seems to be growing daily. I wonder how the order books really look as dealers seem genuinely sanguine about next year.

Re: Autocar - First test of the California

Out of interest, who is your dealer?

BTW - enjoy your posts and insights

Re: Autocar - First test of the California

I deal with three different dealers across the country

I was at my dealer today and they almost insisted I keep my name on the list. I indicated that was fine by me but my interest was in the 430 replacement.

You make them sound pretty desperate, Nick.

Is your name simultaneously at the top and at the bottom of their "list"?
