at least a new front bumper!

+1. With a few melted rear light/bumper parts as the only differences, this must be the 997.0002 TT

just wait guys, im almost positive they just didn't put the new bumper on yet

Afterall, Form doesn't follow function anymore, so putting the new inlets on the test mule doesn't matter in testing performance. I'm sure it'll be 0.1 second faster somehow. IT's a beautiful thing really!

There will no new front bumper.

    Re: 997TT Facelift

Anyway if every time you brake the discs will glow like that it will be really cool!!!!

    Re: 997TT Facelift

Oh Boy..Before to long I'll be specing my new Turbo Cab.

    Re: 997TT Facelift

Why is that the test car never comes with a sunroof ?

    Optional in Europe only ?

    Re: 997TT Facelift

Looks very much the same and if the GT1 engine is gone why would I trade my current 997tt?

Won't be faster than any current Stage II kit 997 Turbos. And greener is wayyyy down my list of priorities - this is a supercar, not a Prius!

More modern engine with less moving parts with lower emissions and fuel consumption.
    Better performance and smoothness
PDK with driving modes + overboost functions
    Improved PTM

Not a backward step in my way of thinking!

Porsche maxim: The newer car is the better car.

You mean unproven engine and good for saving you a few quid on a long boring motorway trip in over-drive gear. I doubt if you drive the car round a track that you will get that much better fuel consumption.

    Already got that thanks.

Depends what you are coming from. If trading in a stock 997 Turbo for a facelift Turbo then is it really $$,$$$ (depreciation on trade-in) better?! I think you'd be throwing your money down the drain personally. Fine if you are not trading in.

For those of us that have already improved the 997 Turbo ourselves, Porsche will be coming up way short until at least the 991 (and even that better have the ability to fly to be better! )

My point related to what advantages I expect 997TT.2 to have over 997TT.1, technically.

If depreciation and other economic variables are involved then the decision making is totally different and like in the case of the Carrera, the FL doesn't make much financial sense if you already own a 997.

However, the absence of financial logic in the switch from pre-FL to post-FL, must not blur the issue that the newer car is going to be the better one, like in all the line of Porsche cars.

Your car is definitely one of the best ever and enjoy it in safety

Well we shall have to wait and see what long term impact losing the GT1-based engine has. The minuses may be larger than the pluses - at least for the first couple of generations

You have to realize why Porsche are making this move: to reduce CO2 outputs and make more profits, ie. not because the GT1 engine has reached it's maximum potential.

    Re: 997TT Facelift

my dealer from brazil, the owner(the only dealer here in brazil), was in germany in the factory, and they told him that the new turbo will be:

    0-100km/h = 3.1~3.4 sec
    0-200km/h =10.5~10.9 sec

probably faster than the 997GT2MKI and aprox 510~520hp

no exterior changes but EXCELENT performance

If this is even half true performance-wise then this is probably all down to the GT-R breathing down Porsche's neck - hence the glowing ceramics!

Instead of Porsche putting turbos on the new 3.6L Carrera engine, they may well decide to jump straight to the 3.8L Carrera S engine....

I really doubt those figures though as the 550bhp Ruf powerkitted Tiptronic does 3.9 and 11.1s (100 and 200kph respectively). PDK may be faster than Tiptronic but not to overcome 40+ more BHP and wayyy more torque (remember the PDK transmission can only handle 700Nm and Ruf is 780Nm)

    Re: 997TT Facelift

I am also a bit wary of the new motor (last one was a classic), however DFI should be a huge improvement for the Turbo. It will allow much higher static compression ratio which will dramatically improve off-boost performance and make lag much smaller.

Why is everybody wary of new Porsche engines? Are Porsche so bad in engine design and build?

BMW and Mercedes, for example, bring out new engines every 3-4 years with the minimum of fuss and without any problems whatsoever. Very few people take notice, in fact!

Well, if you look at what Porshe did with the first 996 Carreras, they took the dry-sump racing motor of the 993 (and the GT1 and current GT/Turbo cars) and replaced it with a totally inadequate wet-sump motor from the Boxster, in an effort to save money.

People are afraid of being a victim of this marketing strategy again.

Unfortunately, this info seems completely wrong

    - 997TT will have ca. 500hp
    - 0-200kph will be around 12s
    - the exterior will be changed (new rear lights, new mirrors etc.)

Dealers all want to sell new cars

However, the 997TT will be a great car indeed

I'll never buy a used Turbo in the future. I'll wonder how the previous owner beat the sh*t out of it and how the non-GT1 engine can't handle such treatment.

Used GT1 engine you can have some significant faith in because they're overbuilt.

Porsche were poor back then when developing these engines and they cut corners. Things are different now on the money front and also they have the benefit of the lessons learned from the bad experiences with cylinder lines, intermediate shafts, RMS etc.

Or at least so I hope!

    this is what a 997MKI does... o to 200 in 12....

i dont know you guys... but i believe the turbo MKII will be a beast!

someone told that the PDK can only handle 700nm...

why cant be the new PDK in the turbo MKII stronger??

or maybe this new engine can be very strong!

    I BELIEVE!!!

    Re: 997TT Facelift

    Well... Do not BELIVE.

There are two versions of 7speed PDK(made by ZF). One is in 997.2 Carrera models and that one can handle up to 440Nm, other is version for new 997.2 Turbo and that one can handle up to 700Nm.

You can expect 500ps/660Nm in new 997.2 Turbo DFI 3.6L engine. PDK of course...

BUT, new engine will be hardware and software like almost impossible to tune. Next thing is that we will see tuning packages for sure for new 997.2 Turbo soon after its intro but, for MANUAL version only. At least for some period of time...

Nick, the tail lights are 977.2 facelift tail lights.

    Re: 997TT Facelift

Why does Porsche hide the logo (Porsche emblem) on this Turbo, when it's obviously not heavily camouflaged?

    Nick..you are right....

if there is a MK1 and an MK2 parked one near ther other ok,but instead on the road is difficult to see the difference..

For this and other reason is easy that i will make my record staying with my Turbo till the next ALL new Turbo(991)
