    Aston Martin from e46 CSL

    Hi all

I have a CSL at moment but wondered if the are any Aston's that would be worth giving up the CSL for..I use the CSL as a weekend / occasional track car.

Never driven an Aston before, so any advice would be great.

Re: Aston Martin from e46 CSL

Astons are quite nice cars, but I'm not too sure if they are strong enough for track use

Exactly. They are more GT cars. If you want to prep one for track use, be ready to spend a few quids.

Re: Aston Martin from e46 CSL

Get an Lotus for the track! The Aston belongs to the cruise!

Re: Aston Martin from e46 CSL

The onyl Aston which can better the CSL is the DBS - not sure if it can go round a track without costing you big $$$ though!

Re: Aston Martin from e46 CSL

The only Aston that would give you the "fun" factor of a CSL would be a track prepped Vantage V8.

But at that cost, you could probably by 2 CSL's.

Re: Aston Martin from e46 CSL

The guys are right in some ways, it isn't really a track car, although the V8 Vantage performs very well on track & is reliable enough to use, but you would feel guilty! If it is a track car I'd go 996gt3 after your CSL or a 997GT3 if that's within budget.

I have the new 4.7 litre Vantage V8 & it is an awesome car, more grunt & character than the CSL, you will enjoy the car as much for the design. looks & interior as being a great drivers car & that V8 engine note is to die for!

    So my call would be:
If you want a very special car for the weekend & the very occasional track day a V8 Vantage Roadster.

For hardcore track work & weekend B road blasting.. GT3!

Or get a Nissan like everyone else!!!!!!!!

Re: Aston Martin from e46 CSL

Consider getting an Vantage N24 if it is for track use, but it won't be comfortable on the street...

The normal consumer Aston models are not track oriented at all, and no such "clubsport" model that is street/track friendly is currently offered.

I would advise going to Exige/GT3 route instead.

Re: Aston Martin from e46 CSL

Of what I've seen on track, AM V8's are way too heavy. I'm not sure it would make sense to strip dowm an AM when better basis exist. I think your CSL is a better basis. I'd definitely go for a GT3. The Exige is a great car, but GT3 is certainly better on fast tracks and surely better for roads.

Re: Aston Martin from e46 CSL

i agree with the 997 GT3. If you only need two seats it is the best weekend/track/DD car available today.

Re: Aston Martin from e46 CSL

Thanks for the replies. Think I'll stick with the CSL as 997 GT3 prices are out of my budget...
