Video of Launch Control on 09 997S PDK

Here's a little video test update for you guys now that we're done with Stage 1 level upgrades (SharkWerks exhaust and EVOMSit)....

    http://videos.streetfire.net/video/First-2009-Porsche-997S_190100.htm

Oh and I do like the launch control:D

Re: Video of Launch Control on 09 997S PDK

What the hell is he doing to that car? Apart from the launch at the beginning he sounded like he was killing it...

Sounded like abuse or perhaps someone who didn't know how to drive.

    [edit]

Is that your car? You should know better. Remind me not to buy one of your cars after you've had it. No offense intended but ....

Re: Video of Launch Control on 09 997S PDK

That's the new launch control feature... He was doing _exactly_ as it says in the manual. The car has this feature so it launches like that on purpose. You push the sport button, put your foot on the brake and gas and then the display shows "Launch control Active". In fact due to this feature people can now launch the car _without_ doing any damage like you would in a 6speed. Hope that makes sense.

Porsche actually has a Video on their site doing the _same_ thing. Not many people have seen the function/feature in action so...

Here's Porsche official one (it's quiet because he has the stock exhaust):
    http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=E9VxIW5lckE

Sorry to pee in your coffee though

Re: Video of Launch Control on 09 997S PDK

No not at all don't apologise, the launch control was fine, quite good in fact. What was the reason for knocking the car down a gear and driving round the corners with the engine screaming for mercy and obviously in the wrong gear...

I know what launch control is, but most of that video was painful to listen to...

Re: Video of Launch Control on 09 997S PDK

Oh well remember it's got a modified exhaust so it _is_ considerably louder. Also it's on a hill (going up) so at 4-6Krpms in 2nd gear it does shreik.... It was actually being tested for any resonance/drone (none luckily). So with it being louder and between 4-6 going around a turn that's what it can sound like. A bit 993-ish....

Those are the HRE P43 monoblok wheels.... They're a bit lighter than the stock ones too;)

Re: Video of Launch Control on 09 997S PDK

Like ResB said...count me out for a resale.

Re: Video of Launch Control on 09 997S PDK

Re the PDK launch control... I would be leery to buy a used 997.2 PDK SC+ precisely because of the launch control feature.

No worries and we drive them hard, track them etc.. and do what they're supposed to do with them;)

    Just like here...

    Guys,

What's the sense of owning a Sports Car, especially one that touts itself as being very stout and robustly designed, if you can beat it down a little?

It's like dating a sexy stripper - you know the relationship definitely isn't going to be for ever, so you beat the p&ssy up a little and enjoy the ride while you're together.

+1 that's why we drive Porsches and not wax F-cars;)

    PS Like the sig too!

Sharkster: What do you think of the 997.2 PDK steering feel? Some here say that it is numb. What do you think?

Is the PDK steering wheel larger than the standard steering wheel?

Completely agree, there's no-one I know who enjoys their P car as much as I do. However, doing what the video shows, save the LC launches and this is just my opinion, but driving the in the way shown is not driving the car. Most of the over-revving is due to wrong gear/too low a gear selection and on the down shift, both up and down hill and just sounds completely wrong and painful to be honest. If it's deliberate then it's abuse, if it's not then it shows inexperience.

If the OP is trying to give an idea of what the exhaust sounds like then the best way is under acceleration, not on the over run if that makes sense.

If the video is about the LC abilities then cut all the other crap out, it's embarrassing.

    [edit]

Love the RS video too. There's no driving in the wrong gear in that one.

He is downshifting for no apparent reason but I doubt he is over-reving it. Actually... you can not over-rev a PDK.

I agree completely with driving them as intended, tracking, have for years .... but don't think I'll ever understand drag racing a Pcar.

Ya right, it wasn't the right way of describing it. Buy, 5/6,000 rpm while doing 30 mph is to a degree however you look at it over revving.

Re: Video of Launch Control on 09 997S PDK

What are the power figures for the stage 1 please...

Also, agree, these cars are desingned to be driven hard, and although that car was being held in a very low gear for no other reason than to demonstrate the noise, it certainly wouldn't be doing it any harm...

Glad you like the RS... it's a fun, fun car... On the other car it's early days yet so we're just trying stuff. As I was saying we're testing for resonance and other stuff so we're making sure there is none at all kinds of RPMS since we can't control how each person drives;)

Correct, there's no way to over rev it. In fact, the entire time it was in auto mode and if you press a gear shift and it's not in "range" so to speak it won't actually let you...

I'm with you on that one... No drag racing for me either. I did do it back in the day with my old Tip 996TT just because people said it couldn't be done but these cars are so much fun on the track (road course that is).

Hi there, well it's thicker (the sport wheel) and I wouldn't say it's numb but it depends on what you compare it to. Against my RS, the steering is more numb yes. It's sort of inline with the "softer" GT2...

It's early days in terms of testing the new ECU/exhaust set up but once we're ready to announce we will. The primary objective with the exhaust was to make it sound good first. I see performance claims for exhausts on NA P-cars all the time that just don't seem right or fair to the consumer. If the exhaust itself makes power it won't be much and only towards the top end of the curve. We see some exhausts that claim 20-30hp on an NA car (crazy) that actually end up loosing power;( The ECU work we've done gets about 10-15rwhp usually. The other set up we have we're planning to save about 45 pounds off of the rear end as well...

well hes showing his product, off course he must try all situations to give us a real idea of the exhaust sound...

if high revving the car at 6k keeping it that way, like in the curves, damage the car, probably i will no be a porsche owner...

BTW, we have a PORSCHE not a ferrari.

    SHARKSTER question:

what really happens in the sistem when launch control is activated? it looks like a clutch been released slowly(i know is not that but)..

its strange.. can you explain us....

it didnt look very very good IMO..

your feeling inside the car... what should the 1/4 mile for this car with this UPS...

Re: Video of Launch Control on 09 997S PDK

here's a proper video of how it sounds/looks with the new mods;)
