    Ruf Develops Electric Powered Porsche 911

    Hope it is not a repost... but here is it:

    Following recent rumours of a fully electric powered Cayman prototype, it has been revealed that the Porsche specialty tuner, Ruf, has in fact developed a fully electric powered 997 prototype. It features a 204hp (150kW) electric motor producing 650 Nm (480 lb-ft) of torque.

    Despite carrying 550 kilograms (96 battery cells each weighing 5.6 kg) worth of Axeon lithium-ion batteries, the 911 goes from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 7 seconds. After some mathematical acrobatics, a theoretical top speed of 224 km/h (139mph) is possible given its 1900 kg weight and 160 amps per cell. The 911 EV has a driving range of 250-300 km (155-180 miles) under normal driving conditions.

    Tremendous news. Lotus and their partner are ahead of them but this is a GREAT acievement! Congrats to Ruf.

    This is just the beginning, but extremely important. Oil is the root cause of all the economic turmoil we are experiencing today. Thanks to the ingenuity of little Ruf, lotus & partner, and to GM for getting on the ball.

    Electric is the future of the mass market.

    But didn't Tesla announce bankrupcy a while ago. I read this article about them trying to design their car without "detroit" guys. Meaning they attempted to design and built their sports car using scientists and computer guys. Needless to say they are now looking for people with detroit on their resume

    after driving both the Tesla and the ER i can say that the ruf is a "real" car in terms of feel,handeling,quality, comfort and security while the tesla is like a cart,nice but crude and not for long drives

    yes,about a month ago,it is a concept car and the strangest thing of all is driving a 911 for all intents and purposes but no sound and hardly a need to use the brakes-regenrate...
