yes-i have experience with winter tires and turbos-have had 1 996tt and 2 997tt cars and put winter tires on all 3-tire rack is who i dealt with also-the pirellis are a great choice and work well-your decision is whether to get a tire-wheel package from them or just get tires-that is up to you depending what fits into your budget. the car drives great with winter tires in the snow-i have a subaru and would use that if i know that it was going to be a significant snow, but i know that i can take my car to work in the winter and if it starts to snow, i have no problems going home. i can tell you that i have driven the car in 6 inches of snow with no problems. hope that helps.

I have the pirelli sottozero and they are pretty good on dry roads too.

I'v had my Turbo in conditions just like this at Lake Tahoe - it's a blast AS LONG AS IT'S FRESH FALLEN SNOW . Otherwise , the high spots develop into boulder -like chunks of solid ice due to thaw/freeze/thaw and that low front spoiler pays dearly .

If you have a lot of snow and/or it is pretty cold around your place during winter time, get the Nokian winter tires recommended by Porsche, they even have a N-rating(meaning that they were especially tested, modified(!) and approved for a certain Porsche model). I doubt there is a better winter tire for the 997 Turbo IF(!) the outside temperature drops below 5*C. If you mostly have temperatures over 10*C during winter time, get a different winter tire because the Nokia sucks bigtime with warmer temperatures.

Pirelli Sottozero 240's are what the dealers are shipping up here. They have done very well in reviews and I will be putting them on my car this year.

I thought it was the opposite: since the Nokian WR are all-season tires with the "snowflake in the mountain" extreme weather rating, they do better in higher temps than a pure winter tire, plus they can handle snow. I had WRs on my turbo last year, and they did great in weather up to 10-15 C and down below freezing in the snow too.
Now they aren't Pilots in the summer, but then Pilots are pretty worthless in the snow...

Has anyone come across Nokian's recently in the US?
Also - I noticed there are Pirelli Sottozero 240's & 270's. Does anyone know what the difference is?
