My 2005 997S has 996 Brakes !!
So my brake wear light came on and I ordered new pads and sensors to replace the worn ones. My order arrives and I dig in and jack up the car and take everything apart only to find a few things. The old pads are different from the new pads. The wear sensors are too short to reach from the connection point to the pads. I call the place online where I ordered the parts and after some investigating they tell me that some 2005 997s actually have 996 brakes on them.. So I send all the parts back and take the car to my local dealer. The service adviser first looks at me like I'm a crazy person when I tell him the story but then we go back to the parts department and a woman working back there said she knew EXACTLY what I was talking about. She said many if not ALL 2005 997s that she's seen actually have 996 brakes on them. So after telling her my story as well I bought all 996 brake pads sensors and dampers etc...
Going to put them on in the next few days...
Go figure.. I know Porsche likes to add stuff kind of mid model year and whenever they feel like it but this is a part that apparently even the VIN # does not bring up the correct part #. I think if they're going to stick old parts on a new car they should at least code them correctly so when you buy new parts or take the car to the dealer they know what's going on !!
