    MB GLK in Person

    Yesterday when I was driving to my hotel in New Jersey I noticed there was a GLK parked in the parking lot, so I stopped and snapped a few shots to share with everyone. The car in person looks as big as ML class .
    It looks boxy but nice nonetheless.

    When I walked to the lobby I noticed there were like a dozen guys with MB jackets and t-shirts relaxing and their laptops next to them. I went to my room changed and headed out to see if I see anymore test cars but none .

    This thing looks like it was a design scavanged from the trash dumpster behind the Mitsubishi design center , as it was too ugly an SUV design for even THEM.

    Unfortunately, it looks different to how an MB GLK should look.

    I think it must have started life as a future Jeep, being designed by Mercedes-Benz to be passed over the fence to Chrysler. Then, when Daimler Chrysler was split up, they raised the fence higher and Mercedes Benz got left holding the unwanted gift.

    Just a theory of mine. The GLK does look like it would fit in better with Jeep's corporate design theme.

    You make perfect sense. I never thought about Chrysler, it does look like a jeep.

    A few days ago I sat in the back seat of a GLK, ML63 and a Porsche Cayenne GTS back to back and noticed very little difference in leg room.

    Fooking ugly!!!

    It looks like a Lexus LX570, just with more scalloping on the body lines and WORSE angles.

    The old G-Wagen body was just fine. It was so retro,blocky, and functionaly looking - it looked "right". Much like the Hummer and H2.

    I'm shocked in the bad design of that car.

    Anyway, the German Mercedes Dealers are telling me, that the design is made to match the American taste. I always thought - as I spend many time in the US - I have a feeling for American Design. Good to hear that you guys are seeing it like I do, the car looks like a shoe Box, nothing more!

    @MikeS - yesss - there are not many nice Mercedes Cars left. The world is talking bad about bangle, but what Mercedes is doing is even worse!

    IMO it still looks 100x better then its closest rival : the BMW X3

    Lol, the guys designing the 996, the 986, the Cayenne mk1 and the panamera must all have been fired by now and were collectively hired by MB
    Too bad PAG got some chinese designers back for it, overdesigning the bumpers of the 997tt, 997GT3 and 997GT2...

    I agree C63, ML63 and the new CL look very nice the rest, forget about it.

    In fact, not that a big SUV makes much sense anymore, though oil is back down for a while, GM, in particular Chevrolet is designing some of the best products it has ever produced;

    The corvette
    the New Camaro
    the volt electric car
    and this SUV the Traverse
    nice clean design

    That's not even a silly thought at all. Those bulky fender flares and especially the spot, where engine bonnet and A-pillar meet look very odd. Not only for a Mercedes.

    The most annoying thing to me is the fact, that this boxy styling theme will visually wear off on purpose. Pretty uncommon for this brand...

    GLK looks like a joke!
    I didn't know it was out already... What was it? a backdoor presentation!

    The back of the car is soooooooo ugly and bland. It couldn't be more so if they tried!
