my ride with Walter Rohrl
i found this video on my computer last night and realized i don't think i ever posted it. its from way back in 2005, during the launch of the 997 C4S, in Monte Carlo.
the video does not do WR any justice. we were going very fast, and what was eye opening to me was how quickly and aggressively the 997 could be driven on such a BAD surface! the road was broken in so many places, with lots of loose gravel, yet the chassis sucked it all up like it was nothing. even more impressive were the brakes on such a surface! it revealed a dimension of the 911 i didn't know existed (performance on such a bad surface).
Walter was, of course, driving at only around 6/10ths, as he gave at least 40-50 of these drives to all the journos present on the day.
i had several opportunities to chat with the man during this, and another Porsche event, and he is a real class act. a gentleman and a genius behind the wheel.
anyway, not a great video, but for what its worth...
