used to be a die-hard mini fan.
had 2 Copper S. one written off after one yr
and then I bought another one ha!
the Mini2 website used to be my IE home page....
great little car. not fast, but fast enough.
regret selling it but didnt need two cars.
incidently, I saw my old mini on the road the other day.
it was a lady owener now, the car is still in tip-top condition.... even the license plate was the same....
good to know she's been taken care of.

Wow, a lot more people than I thought. I still love mine, will never let it go! I also prefer the looks of the 1st "new" generation Mini's over the current one.
Reason why I asked is, because I recently started modifying my car, but mainly under the hood. Almost no aesthetic modifications other than one or two. I feel like I have found new excitement for my little go-kart all over again

I missed having a small car that I could have fun with. Moreover I did not feel the 50k price tag for the JCW Works was justified. So I went for the 500 abarth SS instead. 170hp turbocharged with some nifty details and a decent exhaust note.

oh man....Mike why this new post????....you really know where it hurts man!!!! :)
My baby is now living in south of Spain, with his new mini colector owner(he has another r53 cooper S, and a r53 GP)....so I guess he is in good hands....
this shows how good these cars are, some people have more than one Cooper S
The thing is....the R56 Cooper S with recaro backet seats, is growing on me......and now I have seen good offers for second hand cars with very low mileage...
Is it true that the R56 Cooper S fuel consumption has been reduced drastically?? vs the r53?.....official figueres are true??????????

Wow, that is quite a high price for such a little car. I'm sure it will be worth it though. From a design point of view Fiat has hit the nail on the head with this one when comparing with the original IMO.

Apparently that is why they changed over to turbocharged, because people complaining about the heavy consumption from the supercharger. I don't have a new one, but apparently if you drive it nice - you can average about 8-9 litre/100km on the R56.
What did you replace the Mini with Alex?

I had one back in 2002. Sold it unfortunately. Sounds like a lot of sports car enthusiast has owned one. And Mike, I definitely agree that the R53 looks better than the R56. The headlight of the R56 is just not as aggresive as the old car.
An occasional member of this board (Nick is his name but I can't remember his username) and he has one that has completely been modified into a track car. Maybe he will come on here to tell us what he has done. I believe his car hasn't been used for a while as he has other track cars.

My mom has an R53 Cooper S, but I'm trying to see if she'll possibly upgrade to the R56 Works. I test drove it days after Mini of Boston got their first one, and man is it quick! I like hearing the turbo spool up, although i like the looks of the R53 and the sound of the supercharger.

Still have my R53 Cooper S JCW. Bought it from a crazy guy that had spend sth like 80% over price of normal car with all the JCW extras (engine, bodykit, wheels, breaks, seats, leather panels etc etc)! And then I liked it so much that I added whatever he had left off! Its my daily driver and with 240hp its decent quick (not as impressive as I expected it though). Fun to drive but the JCW suspension a bit stiff for ldn potholes..

Hey Wayne,
I do still have mine, its sitting at the back of my shed unused since late 2006.
it has...(big breath), Full CF interior panels (everything internal was custom made), Full 6 point cage with cobra race seats etc, Race dash and data logger, other bits and pieces. Bilstein PSS2? suspension, prodrive rims with Michelin PSC tyres and some external aero pieces. Full catless custom exhaust. Engine is a one off (favor) Prodrive built engine with a 285 rotation piper cam, Prodrive head, block and Prodrive sourced pistons, rods etc etc. GRS IC like yours Mike, Gruppe M intake (purty!), 17% red pulley with lightened crank pulley, 440cc injectors etc etc. Theres quite alot more things to it but thats all I can really remember atm. It was one of those things I did when I was in my early twenties and now seems so ridiculous on how overboard I went.
I also wont sell it as its such a great little car.
I weighed it and dynoed it a couple of years ago and it came to 248BHP at the wheels and weighed 981Kg
I dont have any photos on this computer and its at my other house. Im off to my country house next week so can take some more pics if you want Mike. It might be a bad idea though as it could give you inspiration to go further
