Not so fast. The stock TT wheel has this darker color scheme for interior of spokes and rim so brake dust does not show. I had a 997s all-silver wheels with steel brakes and the things were constantly looking like cr*p. Now with the TT wheels and steel rotors I "never" look at the wheels and get p*ssed at how fast they got dirty.

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

I just finalised my spec for a MY09 997 TT, Aug build. The RS Spyder wheel option was not accepted by Porsche as they still dont know when the wheel actually will be available. Could be beginning of 2009.

I was informed that Porsche has some experience with centre bolt on street cars from the 959 and also the Carrera GT. Magnesium was apparently a big claim issue from 964 RS customers (they did not understand how sensitive the material is) and therefore the Carrera GT had mag-alloyd wheels, not pure mag wheels.

We will have to wait and see what actually comes out. My car will unfortunately be without the Spyder wheels.

Thanks for the info re. mag. wheel; I was curious about both the central bolt and magnesium type wheels' durability/usability for a daily driver. Too bad about the Spyder wheel, but you know "second choice" is not that bad and always "around the corner" :

Can, quit posting pics of your wheels Just when I think I want the RS 171 you come with the constant shots of your awesome P40s. Now I'm back to square one!

Yeah! Geez Cannga, every time I see your car I realize I made a big mistake with my stupid Slate Grey color choice with the fugly stock wheels and crummy steel rotors! Quit it!

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

P40's rule - don't listen to them Can

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

    Doug (& MMD),

Ha ha ha. The fact that you are having troubling deciding means both wheels are very pretty. When there was a poll, I remember people were split fairly evenly (?). You can't go wrong with either.

As much as I (& Alex obviously ) love the P40, I honestly feel that since this is a matter of esthetic/taste, there is no such thing as "the best Turbo wheel."

The round lines and otherwise very "slatty" Turbo's exterior do require something curvy and with less slats though. So although there is no best, there's definitely "better." That is, after-market tends to be "better" than stock. JMHO, YMMV.

For anyone interested, the latest round of pictures was taken with Canon 1D, 85 mm f/1.2 Canon lens, shot in RAW format. The location is that last land area you would see when your airplane takes off from Los Angeles International Airport. I was there with my baby from around 7 to 9 pm, waiting for the golden light.

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

Ah, yes. The old El Segundo power plant. Brings back fond memories.

Love your wheels, and car. I'm still conflicted but I admit I like the P40; the best of all I've seen out there. I had to do a pronto rear tire replacement last week, but I think I'll get some new wheels when all 4 tires are ready to be replaced.

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

    RS Spyder wheels..finally!

i think they are here..on the front

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

    Another shot

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

    Bet HRE is kinda pissed.

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

Thanks Darius! Could we assume that this is a facelifted car?

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

Looking at the rear lights, I guess we could!

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

Ralf, sure this one is a restyling one

but check the MY2009 configurator for the 997TT on Porsche.com ,there is the RS Spyder wheels option near to be ready to go,and the facelift will not happen on MY2009 for the Turbo..so they are testing on the restyling an option also for the non restyling

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

They don't have the 3 dimensional dive that makes the HRE P40's so beautiful.

WAY better than the current stock wheels though!

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

    wooooo

    definitely love those wheels.

Must buy on 997 TT, for sure!

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

Wheels are no more selectable in the car configurator...

    Why ?

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

Notice that there is a single center bolt, interesting.

Are you guys sure that it indeed utilizes the center bold connection? This would cause significant chances on the wheel hub and would possibly not correlate with the fitment of different rims. I could imagine the center cover features a center bold appearance only.

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

It actually said "centre bolt" in the order guide when the option existed for a short period of time, but how do you then fit winter wheels e.g.?

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

is no more on the config anyways

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

They would never put a centre bolt on a mass production road car like the Turbo. CGT is something else.

I do believe these style wheels are coming as an option though. I had the CSL rims on my E46 M3 and I think they are the most beautiful examples BBS has produced for the road.

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

    Cannga,
Don't know who you are but that is the most studly guards red turbo I have seen. Those P40's make that car. I am calling to get some for my GT2 in black ASAP. Do you have spacers to extend out the wheels. I can't quit admiring that car. I had a guards with natural leather, and now I am wishing I had kept that car.

Thank you GT for your kind comment. Yes, I too am a fan of red/beige or tan combination. That was the one thing about my car's order that was fixed from the beginning. Guards Red, even though it's not as popular a color as it used to be.

Sorry that I didn't notice until now you have a question for me in your post. No there is no spacer; the HRE P43 was designed specifically for the Turbo and therefore has a perfect fit with no modification whatsoever (Are GT2's wheels the same dimension as Turbo's?). I think you'll like it. In the year period waiting for the Turbo, I must have collected EVERY single picture of Porsche wheels out there and in the end recognized the very beautiful match between a classic mesh design like the P43 and the soft round lines of the 911. The fact that a lot of Porsche race cars use the same design is icing on the cake. I always love to mention that I am most likely the first P43 owner in the US. (Alex here is first in Europe.)

As far as who I am: just an out-of-control Porsche nuts, like "some" on this forum. As further proof of this, see my "analysis" in the enclosed picture. Not all 7-fork mesh designs are the same; the P43 was designed in a clever fashion, making it one of the most pleasing looking mesh wheels out there, all IMHO of course.

BTW don't know if have decided on after-market exhaust for your GT2, but you might want to check if Cargraphic will release one. These guys make exhaust for (some) Porsche cup cars so the racing pedigree is there. I've driven the (fantastic) GT2 so I know what a stock one sounds like; I think the chance is high that you'll find a Cargraphic GT2 exhaust --if they decide to make one-- to be a significant improvement.

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

Cannga I think you may find that our wheels are P40 not 43!

Ay ay ay... Sin of sins!!! Thanks for the correction. To confuse matters further, HRE just released another gorgeous wheel, called P47.

This design, penta-star like 5 double spokes, reminds me very much of an all time favorite: A similar 5 double-spoke pattern seen on F cars. I still have a slight preference for the more sensual lines of the mesh-design P40 -- matching better the round lines of the 911 body, but boy this would be on my next Porsche for sure.

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

    p47 seems also novitec style

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

    Paris stand...

Personally I do not like them, too aftermarket for me...

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

That center bolt is pretty sexy.

Re: 19" RS Spyder Wheels for MY 2009 Turbo?

So how do they connect? Wheel carrier for both devices, center and five bolt systems?
